BPR9ES failing?

I've had 2 plug completely failing on me this season(not the same side) and I know a few more guys posted similar stories on FB in Quebec.

Have you guys experienced that?
is that a manufacturing defects or the sled is in play?

Any other signs of detonation? What else could it be....that or production issue at NGK.
 
One of the stock plugs on my 2016 AXYS did the same thing. Haven't seen\heard another like it until now.
 
Same thing for me. Like said before a few more on FB. All of the porcelain broke free. No check engine, no codes. Dealer replaced spark plugs. Polaris swears they have never heard of any other issues.

we use the exact same plug number and heat range in a lot of our race motors, thats really strange for sure, first glance i'd say detonation, however with multible plugs doing it, ummmm. We have used 1000's of NGK's over the years with nothing like this...may have to switch to autolight race plug if it continues :juggle::juggle: AR3933's
 
wow it really looks widespread

I think I can rule out my sled then, but will keep en eye for any detonation signs
 
We've had this same thing happen 3 times. No det codes or anything else.
 
Hmmmm, seems the old term from many years ago may be raising it's ugly head in referencing NGK plugs --- the NO GOOD KIND. Has anyone tried running Champs or something else?
 
I'll use the ngk I have but I'm scared a piece of it will fall on top of the piston in a next failure.


What would be an equivalent in champion?
 
I've had 3 champion plugs fail on me. The electrode comes loose and falls down inside the porcelain. If you hold the plug with electrode down and tap the plug it slides back down and looks normal. This has happened on a couple different sleds.

well looks like champion is not a good alternative either then.

Makes me wonder if the det sensor is missing some detonation events
 
Try autolight race plugs, they are really tough, hold well under high boost and NOS use, just a bit harder to "read" accurately, FYI IMHO champions are now total junk
 
3 different buddies in the last year have had 2-6 BPR9ES failures each exactly like described. I'd said you are most definitely not the only one having those issues.
 
I've only run NGKs in my sled, except it may have had Champion plugs in it when I got it. Same with the old Indys I've tinkered on. Never seen one come apart like this, but I haven't bought a new set for a while, so maybe it's a recent run that's bad. I've run NGK plugs in a couple cars without issue too (although they don't seem to last as long as some). Hard to tell from reading through the posts here, but seems like this is happening mostly with plugs that have been sourced recently; seems at least two cases were OE plugs, can anyone confirm they've had plugs they bought fail? If so, when purchased?

Anyway, like 2XM3, I use and so far love the BPR9EIX. I've had issues starting my sled after rolling over in the past, but had to roll it over a couple times this season and it always fires back up after a handful of pulls. I wouldn't say NGK are the greatest, but they're pretty good. Autolite used to be the go-to for old V-8s and such, I think a lot of the stuff they make is pretty low-grade anymore. Haven't run Champion too much, sounds like they're also a one-time standard that's gone over the hill. Unless this is just the tip of the iceberg, I'd still say NGK is the best bet, but I'd like to know what's going on here.
 
Agreed the only Autolight we would run is the actual "race" plug, usually get them from Summit as they are hard to find, the rest are junk :yuck:
