boyesen reeds and oil adjustment

trying out some of the new boyesen reeds and cages on a 13 assault...once installed, i ran the sled up on the stand and it seemed smokey so i decided to check oil pump notch to scribe mark alignment...arm notch is just outside of the scribe mark (on the richer side). i am thinking cages may move throttle bodies up slightly pulling on oil pump arm more. debating on whether i should turn the set screw on the throttle bodies to get scribe mark within the notch triangle (go leaner) or just leave alone? seems alot of folks are turning up the pumps anyways to deal with lean oil usage and the excess smoke may be from sitting and oil draining into crank?. it seems it would take 8 or so turns on the adjuster screw going leaner to get the scribe mark in the notch triangle on the arm. thanks in advance.

When my 13 pro was new it would smoke like crazy due to the oil it was consuming during the break in process of the new motor. I didnt touch a thing and now have 200 plus trouble free miles on it. The amount that it smokes during idle is less but I have heard that if it sits for and extended period of time that will smoke a lot. I would not run your sled any leaner if it is at the factory setting currently. Once you have the sled broke in calculate your fuel to oil ratio and tune to what you are comfortable with. Hope this helps and enjoy your sled!!

Measure your oil consumption first! Most guys are adjusting them 1-3 turns RICHER, and seeing changes from 70:1-40:1 consumption in some cases. 8 turns lean would put you extremely lean!

How long had the sled been sitting since last run after you put in the reeds?

Synthetics run off of parts and "pool" at the bottom of the crankcase... this is a big reason for smoking after sitting for a while.
