boyesen reed install?

When installing the boyesen reed cages in an 800HO (04 Summit) are you supposed to use the factory (stock) spacer? The instructions do not say and I sent an email to them and they have not responded. thanks rickster

I finally heard back from Boyesen today and they advised not to use the factory reed block spacers.

correction

Upon putting the sled together without the spacers as the email from Boyesen advised the air box would not slide far enough forward to engage the carbs. Without the spacers the airbox hits against the steering loop. In comparing the stock reeds with spacers side by side with the Boyesen there is a 3/8" to 1/2" difference in length.

I called them and spoke with a tech about it as I wanted to be sure I wasn't trying to install an incorrect part (number). They are the 84-2's and are the correct one and he advised that indeed the factory spacer needs to be used. He added that the spacer is actually "recommended" on the Summit models as it provides a better bottom end via more case volume. rickster

That's funny because I put them in my 04 and now on my 05 and the air box went right in there. Plus why would they send the shorter bolts if they wanted you to use the factory spacers? Any ways mine runs really well the way it is so I'm not changing it yet.

I wondered about the short bolts as well. On my 04 Summit the horn on the end of the airbox would come into contact with the steering loop fram member before properely seating on the carbs, the exact thickness of the spacers. Once the spacers where in place the airbox sets where it always did . I fired it up yesterday and everything sounds good.
