Now, having said that, if we start to see trucks being shipped from China back to the U.S, I will have a different mindset......
GM broke contract with Stillwater mine here in Montana, after they restructured. I am not sure how many will be effected. It is a platium and pladium mine....used in Cat converters.
How many household objects do you use today that are made in China and imported for your consumption?
ALL OF THEM ! !
GM needs to sell units where they can. It's been a global thing for many years now so this should come as no surprise (well maybe a surprise to a guy living in a cave).
I work for a GM dealer so my opinions are what they are. Take them or leave them.
China and India are the new emerging economies. Like it or not, that is a fact. With this growing economy comes more wealth to the chinese people. What do you think these people want to own? Crap made in China? There's huge status to a guy living in China is he's driving an american car. Let them have an american car. If it's built in CHina to save freight, get cheaper labour etc. then that's what needs to be done. Not to mention there's a billion of them over there. I guess screwing is more popular than dying.
I think it's hilarious that people on here blamed the unions for the demise of the American manufacturing sector yet when a company (and GM isn't alone here) moves capacity off shore to a cheaper business model, they stand up and squeal about not buying a product because it's made in China.
Look under your Christmas Tree in a few months. I bet 65% of the stuff under it is built in China. Thank god or instead of paying 1000 bucks for gifts, we'd be paying $3000.00.
Ollie this make GM plant 3 or 4 now in China, They can import whatever they want but if people here cant afford it they cant afford it.

Three p's you working for the Walls family? You might be the only union friendly employee they have. Seems to me that your bread is buttered by a free enterpriser of the highest order. I'll find a Canadian made BRP product under my tree this year and so will most of my family. What is your take on raw log exports to the orient?
I don't see the problem here.....
China is the worlds largest market for anything. GM thinks it can sell trucks over there, and wants to build a plant. It has to build a plant IN CHINA to serve that country.
GM will sell ZERO trucks if it has to go through the expense of shipping trucks to China.
I hope that venture goes well, maybe that business unit will make GM a lot of money, and GM is closer to repaying the tax payers back........
Now, having said that, if we start to see trucks being shipped from China back to the U.S, I will have a different mindset......
The more profitable they become, the sooner they pay back the American tax payer. That's not rocket science, some people just need to accept that fact. Just like not buying the GM vehicles...don't and watch how fast the money gets paid back.
Call me cynical, but I'm finding some humor in all this. Obama's Task Force makes GM crap on their dealers and hug the unions. In turn, GM is going to ship jobs overseas. Sorry, but as a dealer I'm LMFAO.
Exactly Jeff.
GM makes some moves to become profitable and people complain. Then you get the people that toss out the "I'm never buying another GM product again". That's fine, it's their choice, just don't biotch when GM has no hope in hell of ever paying any of the bailout loans back. The anger is misdirected, IMO.

The 40 billion was just enough to keep GM afloat long enough for bo and the dems to get their votes, then, POOF.
