Boy I sure am glad we bailed out Gm to save american jobs.

I don't see the problem here.....

China is the worlds largest market for anything. GM thinks it can sell trucks over there, and wants to build a plant. It has to build a plant IN CHINA to serve that country.

GM will sell ZERO trucks if it has to go through the expense of shipping trucks to China.

I hope that venture goes well, maybe that business unit will make GM a lot of money, and GM is closer to repaying the tax payers back........

Now, having said that, if we start to see trucks being shipped from China back to the U.S, I will have a different mindset......

I agree completely. I dont care if they sell vehicles over there. What i do care about is why they arent using those resources to make better vehicles here.

How many household objects do you use today that are made in China and imported for your consumption?

ALL OF THEM ! !

GM needs to sell units where they can. It's been a global thing for many years now so this should come as no surprise (well maybe a surprise to a guy living in a cave).

I work for a GM dealer so my opinions are what they are. Take them or leave them.

China and India are the new emerging economies. Like it or not, that is a fact. With this growing economy comes more wealth to the chinese people. What do you think these people want to own? Crap made in China? There's huge status to a guy living in China is he's driving an american car. Let them have an american car. If it's built in CHina to save freight, get cheaper labour etc. then that's what needs to be done. Not to mention there's a billion of them over there. I guess screwing is more popular than dying.

I think it's hilarious that people on here blamed the unions for the demise of the American manufacturing sector yet when a company (and GM isn't alone here) moves capacity off shore to a cheaper business model, they stand up and squeal about not buying a product because it's made in China.

Look under your Christmas Tree in a few months. I bet 65% of the stuff under it is built in China. Thank god or instead of paying 1000 bucks for gifts, we'd be paying $3000.00.

This is why you should be mad.

"Vehicles made at the venture will carry the FAW brand and will focus on supplying the China market, but they could be exported under a GM brand through the Detroit automaker's global network in the future, Wale said.

GM is making Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac models at its flagship China venture with SAIC Motor Corp. It also makes minivans, pickup trucks and the Spark compact car in a three-way tie-up with SAIC and Liuzhou Wuling Automobile."

You can bet your bottom dollar they will be importing those vehicles into the US soon as they can.
Plus, they are broke. Where did they get the cash to suddenly open a Chinese plant?

GM broke contract with Stillwater mine here in Montana, after they restructured. I am not sure how many will be effected. It is a platium and pladium mine....used in Cat converters.

Montana is pissed about that too. A lot of people are really scratching their heads about that one. Even some of the politicians are speaking up about it.
I'd like to see GM get the contract back to them...but I don't see it happening.

not to disagree, but I don't have like it. Doesn't mean we need to just roll over and let China and India consume all our wealth. We need to fix this ASAP Buy American needs to mean something again. Start flooding the Chinese market with GM "made in China" rebadged crap and guess they'll loose their status value, and any other value they had. Make em at home and if someone is rich enough to haul it to China let them enjoy real Americian made cars.

All we did was enable more jobs to be sent overseas, bail 'em out and ship em out. :(

Ollie this make GM plant 3 or 4 now in China, They can import whatever they want but if people here cant afford it they cant afford it.

Not the point.
The point was we HAD to give them 40 BILLION dollars because it would put too many americans out of work if we allowed them to go under.
So the fed bails em out and what happens?
They ship the jobs overseas anyway and now we get to watch all the jobs WE PAID FOR go to china.
If GM wants to move all it's operations over to china, that's fine, just repay the america taxpayer the 40 billion dollars we gave you and it's all good.

Three p's you working for the Walls family? You might be the only union friendly employee they have. Seems to me that your bread is buttered by a free enterpriser of the highest order. I'll find a Canadian made BRP product under my tree this year and so will most of my family. What is your take on raw log exports to the orient?

Who is the Walls' Family?

I am not pro union. Totally against them. THey did their good in the 30's and the 40's. Now they are an organized waste of time. My comment was about how certain people on here birch about unions yet they still expect to pay a price for a US made product the same as one made in a country that pays their employees squat.

Not a union fan here at all. Read the comment again.

Your Canadian made BRP products will be made right and I'm sure that you will enjoy them. I'm talking about people's purchasing habit in general. Don't place your life squarely in my general comment and wonder why you're talking to an idiot.

Raw log exports ahave been going on for years. I don't agree with them. BC sends, or has sent, millions of trees to the US. I don't know what they've done in the Orient. I know that the number will be based on how many board feet of finished product they purchase from our union run mills. THe US raw log deal was a ratio based on how much cut dimensional lumber they purchased.

I know who butters my bread.

Exactly Jeff.

GM makes some moves to become profitable and people complain. Then you get the people that toss out the "I'm never buying another GM product again". That's fine, it's their choice, just don't biotch when GM has no hope in hell of ever paying any of the bailout loans back. The anger is misdirected, IMO.

The more profitable they become, the sooner they pay back the American tax payer. That's not rocket science, some people just need to accept that fact. Just like not buying the GM vehicles...don't and watch how fast the money gets paid back.

Call me cynical, but I'm finding some humor in all this. Obama's Task Force makes GM crap on their dealers and hug the unions. In turn, GM is going to ship jobs overseas. Sorry, but as a dealer I'm LMFAO.

GM takes 40 BILLION dollars and you bet your azz we complain.
We are told by OUR politicians that we HAVE to save GM from their own stupidity.
We are told by OUR politicians that GM is too big to fail, it will cost way too many jobs and hurt the country.
We are told GM will repay everything we give them.

The TRUTH>

GM took the 40 BILLION dollars and broke the company up anyway.
GM shut down US plants and is moving them to CHINA.
GM had over 25 BILLION dollars forgiven as part of the bankrupcy we gave them 40 billion to avoid. Now they are trying to get the other 15 billion forgiven.

GM should have gone under. It's called capitalism and it works when we don't have liberals messing with it.

So you bet your azz we are upset.
THEY AREN'T GOING TO PAY BACK CHIT.
Bottom line, the american tax payer got screwed and now GM will take their profits and run to china.

When GM pays back the American taxpayer, then they can do what ever they want. Till then, I say they should be broken up and sold to repay the "loans" they will NEVER repay.

Now that part I do find funny as chit.
The 40 billion was just enough to keep GM afloat long enough for bo and the dems to get their votes, then, POOF.

Ollie, the whole thing stinks. We get that.

The difference in GM's case was the transparency of the whole deal. Hell, if you're that worked up about 40 billion, what about the other 710 billion that was pumped to who knows where? Hell, who exactly knows how much money was tossed around at this point? At least there's some ownership to show for something in this case.

It's too bad Ford doesn't just start buying all the motors they put in their trucks from GM .... That'd be the perfect truck. We wouldn't need Ford, GM, and Dodge, we'd just have Ford with a GM motor in it :)
