2014 Chevy cruz Eco td, had a link but its not working on my phone. i've often wondered why the american car companies have not realised the benefits of diesel engines but finally looks like they're catching on with this and the dodge half ton comin out. we'll have ta see how it stacks up with the v-dub, i'd give it a shot if i had any money.

I'd be interested in a vehicle like that, never been a big VW fan... And..Chevy lost me a few years back. My family had a '04 impala, '06 impala, '01 Malibu, and a '10 sedan of some sort.

All, garbage. Built very cheap. Noises, rattles, plastic crap breaking all the time, electronics (mainly sensors) constantly going out/never working.

And see it in our new Chevy vehicles at work as well. Piss poor quality now.

Got Toyotas now, and my next truck will be a Ford.

Buddy of mine has had two VW diesel jettas though, and has seemed to really like them!

The VW diesels are very nice, but is the fuel economy good enough to offset the more expensive diesel fuel?

For me, my ford focus averages about 30mpg which I can certainly live with running 10% ethanol

not positive, but thought i read the cruz td was supposed to be in the low to mid 40mpg range which ain't to shabby. my buddys got a 2012 jetta tdi and he claims about the same.

I bought the 2012 VW Touareg TDI. Never been a VW fan boy but this thing is a beast. 30 mpg on the highway. Tow the sleds out west and get 18-19 mpg. Climb a 5% grade at altitude at 70 mph and the thing turns 2200 rpm. Jeep has a turbo diesel coming out for 2014. Mercedes engine. That should be a good one as well. I don't see myself going back to gas any time soon.

There are so many advantages to diesel that people don't realize. Most still have the picture and sound of an old 6.9 idi or old 12 valves rattling and smoking down the road. There is something like three times the amount if btus in a unit of diesel compared to a unit of gas. There is a reason that almost 65% of European vehicles are diesel. If the EPA would stop pushing the electric cars and making it nearly impossible to meet emission without choking a diesel to death, we would see a lot more of them. I know that most diesel cars are underrated on their mpg from the govt. I have a friend with a VW tdi, I think it was rated at like 35 mpg or something and he can easily get 40-43 out of it.

I always wondered why people think you have to recover this cost in fuel savings??? I mean the vehicles resale will take care of that. You may not get the whole return on the extra cost but will be close. (unless it was a 6.0 Ford):face-icon-small-ton

I work at a GM store and I drive VW TDI's and have for years. I catch ALOT of crap about that but I commute 70 miles a day and it pays for itself. Now that GM announced the Cruze I most likely will be switching. I have one ordered and will get the first one this dealership has on the ground.

It looks like 38MPG is where they will hit but that is same as VW new line as well. Dammmm those govt emissions!!!

diesels cars will never catch on here. higher purchase price, higher repair costs, higher fuel price. inconvenience of finding that pump with the green handle. gas cars are getting closer to the same mileage every year and they are cheaper to purchase and maintain.

IMO I think they will catch on. Good thing for competitition...this will push the USA. Right now gas is close but look at this........BTW, VW has a Euro model NOT available to us that is a 3 cylinder TDi and it pulls 70 MPG consistantly!!!!! Why cant we have one??? Ask Obama.

Because I am the type of person that buys a car and runs it until I sell it to a scrap yard. Resale doesn't mean anything if I never sell it :face-icon-small-ton

try like 10% more. but diesels are the only vehicles that actually seem to get claimed milage levels. gassers always seem to be fairly low and you can only hit advertised if you drive downhill everyday.

yes there are more per "unit" but what the govt doesnt apply is how many miles to a btu. If they did that the diesel would be within and better than specs.

i just think its good to see gm stepping out of the box alittle finally. now they just need to do something in the half ton trucks, i could see that segment really slipping away with the already popular ecoboost and now the dodge diesel. especially if Ford does introduce the v8 ecoboost. i don't see why gm don't atleast slap the blower on some of there gasser trucks, hell they've been running them on the caddy, camaro and vettes for years now don't think it would be to hard . that would be a sweet truck even if it was the "de-tuned" 540 or whatever horse Cadillac version.
