OK, so my crank in my 900 turbo is out, the rod cage bearing broke in half. So 2 months ago I buy a complete engine, with out 1000 miles on it.
In the midst of moving, so gargage was full of crap, so engine sat in shipping box until tonight, finally had time to do the swap. Well, after changing all the mounting braces to the new from the old, I try to turn the crank by hand....I CANT turn it. OK, so I pull on the rope, I still cannot turn it with the rope. It is like it is seized. I look in the exhaust, and intake, I can still see the cross hatching on the cylinders, the pistons look good.
So then I screw the clutch bolt in and put a 1/2 drive on it, I can now turn it, but is is very diffiecult, I don't hear any grinding or anything, but it is tooo hard. I've rebuilt engines before, and this is not normal. So I think, and hope, maybe its air locked or something.
I pull the heads off, and inner o-rings are flattened, and fill the entire slot, there is actually some rubber melted around the edges of the gap. WTF!!!!!
I then pull the cylinders off, and it still is not any easier to turn, only way I can turn it is by having the clutch bolt in and using a 1/2" drive, it is smooth, no grinding noise, but VERY hard. I look at the rod bearings, and I don't see any issues.
Have not split the cases. I am going to get a hold of the seller tomorrow and see what the story is. It also appears that the engine has been taken apart at some pint, as there was gasket goop on the inside of the cases where it was squeezed in , right at the case halves.
So any thoughts or insight? It appears that it obviously was severly over heated or somethingm, that is the ony way the o-rings would be melted.
I am probably screwed,as I bought it 2 months ago, and am now just finding the problem. I've never had any bad dealings on SW in the 11 years i've been on it, so I just let it sit there until I was ready for it. So what sdo I do?
Put it together and run it? Something seems to be wrong though. Any input would be appreciated..
Thanks Snowest.
