Boss Seat Fit and Finish for 07 Mtn Apex

I got my Boss Highrise seat for my 07 Apex Mtn (finally!) a few day ago, pretty nice product and much lighter than the stock seat. I've already installed an Excell undertunnel Mtn exhaust so my new seat does not have the exhaust outlets and space for the stock muffler on the rear like the stock seat does. When placing my new seat on the tunnel to check out the fit, I noticed that the seat is not long enough to completely cover the hole in the rear of the tunnel. I called Boss and they said that was normal. ??????

Has anyone else installed this seat on their Apex? If so, did you you have the same gap? How did you over come it? Or did you just leave the gap and ride it that way? Doesn't that create an icing problem?

Any suggestions/guidance would be much appreciated.

I've got that same seat on my RX1 which has the exact same tunnel dimensions on top as the Apex and mine covers the hole. When I bought mine Boss was offering 2 different lengths of seat. Normal and shorty. Post a pic or 2 and we can compare.

gap

actually they do end up short, I guess they assume that you have an aftermarket tunnel or something. you should plate it, I removed the exhaust pan and made a plate that covered the hole. I know other guys who just made a plate that covered the hole and finished under the seat.. julio

That's kinda what I was thinking. What material are people using to cover the hole? If it's aluminum, where the best place to get some that's not too expensive?

made this cover for mine with the stock seat. never did use the stock seat with under tunnel exhaust. bought a boss at snow show. fit with this blockoff perfect. go to a local metal shop get a piece of scrap alum same gauge as the tunnel.. dont remember off hand!! and some small scrap thin gauge for the side pieces use cardboard for mockup.made it to fit into stock opening, drilled for the rivet heads for easy removal, then transfer to alum bend up and rivet together. used the stock holes to bolt it down. hour and a half and yer done..

looks like a rear mount turbo would fit well in that empty spot!!

My hubby made an aluminum plate to cover his 07 Apex and he got his aluminum from an aircraft parts & materials store. He did an awesome job on it! I will try to post pics of it later.

How do you like the Mountain lite exhaust? Sound? Power?

The sound is INCREDIBLE. It is a little on the loud side, although I've only listened to it without the seat on, so once I get it all put back together I'm sure it will tone it down a little, but you'll still be able to here me coming! I don't know about the power yet cuz I haven't been able to ride it yet (no seat), but it SOUNDS more powerful.:D

obile,

That's a top-notch job!! Nice looking!! I'm afraid anything I come up with is not going to look anywhere near as good as yours. Thanks for posting the pics, they will come in handy when I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to pull this off. Since I live in the mountains of Colorado (two hour drive from Denver) I'm afraid I'm going to get screwed on buying some aluminum.
