Boots!

Ok so i want to get new boots and was amazed when i was looking at HMK boots that they are just glorified snowboard boots! I can get Burton snowboard boots with Boa laces, fit the same as HMK boots and they are HALF the price! anyone else notice this?

HMK was the only boot in a 17, so I bought a pair of new Voyager Boa's back in the summer for $115. I think timing is key.

I wear snowboard boots.. but then again, I snowboard as well..

AND! I go through a pair a season..

the thing with MOST snowboard boots is they use that vibrafoam or whatever its called for the Sole.. its soft soft rubber that shreds fast when riding sleds. not to mention the lacing buckles break or BOA dial gets caught on rails, etc.... you have to search out the harder rubber sole boots and those end up being the pricey ones too actually..

if you are only sledding, spending the $ on some nice klim or HMK boots while they may be overpriced, they have sledding in mind and will last a lot longer..

thats my .02

no lie.. in the last 5 seasons i'm on my 4th pair of snowboard boots at $100 to $150 or more a pop.. painful..

I rock the snowboard boots as well, but yep I snowboard too. And I annihilate them. Luckily REI takes back every pair when I bust the clips off from catching them on my rails and stuff. This years new Nike's Vapors only cost me $40. I hate to support REI but their return policy rules. The pair I got this year have a pretty tough hard sole, stay away from foam for sure. They'll be dead in no time especially on Pro rails.

Most snowboard boots have a lot more foreward lean than the HMK's also the soles on snowboard boots dont last as long. I'm liking my new HMK's, way lighter than my super heavy KLIM's.

I'm gonna try a pair of Cabela's semi high top gore-tex,, thinsulate scentlok boots.. Forget the name at the moment but will keep you posted.. They were 129$ on sale then shot to 179 and are back down to 134 I think.. They are fairly flexible seemingly light for a high top, and have an aggressive sole so we'll see. The one thing I like is they are guaranteed for the life of the boot under normal wear conditions.. So I put that to the test, when I did some grinding and the sparks melted the gore layer on one of the boots. I took it back and they excepted the damage and gave me a new pair of boots.. Now,, I don't know how often you could get away with this type of damage but they stood behind their product so we'll see how they do in the mountains.. The lace hooks are low so the boot gators in my bibs will come in handy and later on I will take them to a shoe repair place and have speed laces put on in place of the lower hooks.

I would have suggested motorfist stompers. Can walk in them, completely comfortable keep your feet 100% dry. Plus they can be resoled when your running boards tear up the bottom.

HMKs are glorified sno board boots just like Motor Fists are glorified work/hunting boots. But they both work.
I personally don't like my sno board boots for snowmobiling. Too stiff, but mostly too much fwd lean.
Sorel type Pac Boots suck becasue they have no support and pretty soft,so little protection.
I've been using "hunting" boots for many years now. Cabelas brand and Rockys can be had pretty reasonably priced with Thinsulate and a Goretex liner. Decent support, warm enough for me, waterproof and light weight. I use boots with leather lower portions. The ones that are all COrdura get chewed up pretty quick.

I love my Stomper boots. Road HMK boots the last few years and switched to the Stompers. Easy to move in, grip my boards well and don't have the bulky feel.

The gaiters on my Klim Freeride pants are way too loose on my Stompers. Does anyone have an easy solution for that? I want to keep my Freerides and use the Stompers.
