boondocker vs twisted turbos

Just wondering what is the difference between the two kits, i know that boondockers us an intercooler why??? and twisted doesnt use one? the bd kit looks like it is alot heavier than the twisted ?

Call Justin at Code Red. I run a BD w/RG injectors but I left off the intercooler to save electricity, money, and reduce lag...Although the need to do this might not be that important. I here the new intercooler works good. But Justin can mix and match parts to get exactly what you want. He is pretty good in the service department. There really isn't that much to a turbo system and my guess is either kit will work famously. BD has fancier electronics to control boost and it works really good. Even then the can set you up without the EBC. The down side is complexity...I guess the question is do you want the electronics to fail or will you forget to turn down the boost when dropping off the mountain.

You can't go wrong either way...

A couple years ago I think there were a few innovations that made specific kits head and shoulders above others. Many of the setups have melded together to the point that there aren't many critical differences.

That said, I would look for the following features. There are likely others to look for but these were some of the critical features for my M1000 purchase:

1. Customer Service - if you are running a turbo and don't have a dedicated tuner dealership close by, you'll be doing a lot of diagnosing and fixing on your own. Someone who will take the time to lend knowledge in this regard in a timely and accurate manner is invaluable.

2. Injector Location - i think most, if not all, Cat kits are now mating auxiliary injectors on the Cats in the throttle bodies rather than in the airbox. If not, I wouldn't purchase one. Mixture and consistency has been FAR better when using the stock engineering to augment fuel on the various turbos we've run.

3. Simplicity & Logic - more is certainly not always better. Innovation is a great thing, but a simpler setup with the fewest wear items is going to be more reliable long term. Intercoolers, stand alone fuel systems, electronic boost gauges, electric oil pumps, Tial setups, etc, etc are all good ideas but certainly add complexity. Some work, some don't. Don't ever assume that just because it worked on an Apex it'll work on the M - or because its a good idea it makes any difference at all. Bottom line - there are SUPER SIMPLE kits out there that work pleeeeenty good for me.

For my applications, Twisted Turbos best fit these parameters and has worked flawlessly on my M1000. I've ridden others from other brands that ran great, but given similar performance the Twisted Kit was simpler and incorporated everything I needed without unnecessary frills. One item I really like is OVS's air-to-water intercooler idea. I've ridden BD kits with intercoolers and noticed the same "lay down" on top end as non-intercooled sleds, presumably due to heat soaking. I believe the only way to truly accomplish the purpose of the intercooler on these sleds is to go a2w. Otherwise, I see intercoolers as extra volume to charge on boost, extra weight to deal with, and one more thing in the way of diagnosing boost leaks, etc.

I'm not hopping up any brand as there are great ones out there - just helping you know how I sorted through the mix. GOOD LUCK! :)

This pretty much says it all. Do your homework, which includes a search on this forum, and you will find a wealth of good information. I went with Twisted this time around for my M-1000. The 1000 seems to be more turbo finicky than others; however, mine with a few tweaks is running awsomely.

Have you not read all the threads on here about the problems with Boondockers? Some with the kits themselves and many with their customer service.

I almost bought a BD kit this year. Boy, am I glad I didn't.

my bd kit works great and never had a problem with their service. now thats just me, lots of people had problems this year.

With that said the kits both do the same thing. what I used as a deciding factor was between the two, was what people in my area are using. With no one that I knew running a twisted kit that would leave me on my own for tuning and if a problem came up. Yes Shane will answer the phone and talk to you , but we all know that can only go so far sometimes when try'n to figure out whats wrong. So since my friends and others around are using bd, I went with bd.

Are you running the EBC box??? Boondocker was Great at telling me what I needed and Taking my money. The problem arose when they could not deliver the GOODS. I just got tiered of them PISSING on my leg and telling me it was Raining and when I decided to send it back it was a whole new ballgame. Live and Learn I guess...G

Yep I'm using the EBC, works great and does what they said it would do. the only thing is it does it differently then how I thought it would. like using a DC % rather than a psi number. I was lucky and have had my ebc for 3 months now. I will not make any excuses for what they did this year with the delays people had. All I can say is their kits work and work very well just like the other companys.

My BD kit w/ EBC is working well too. It worked on pump gas and is now working on Race Gas. I haven't had any issues with the EBC. I had a stator go on my sled this year and had several conversations with Jarred at BD, both at work and a few late at night on his cell phone while trying to isolate the problem. I don't think I could ask for more customer support than that. The BD R&D guys made a early trip to west before Christmas to help a dozen guys tune in their sleds. The Kits are as good as the installation, screw it up and it runs like crap, either kit. If you get a BD kit use a dealer like Code Red, MMSports or VOLK. If you need customer support go to the dealer to get it, any of those guys can answer almost any question you can dream up.

X2 on use a dealer, If you go with a bd kit the best help you can get is from a good dealer that works with bd. My dealer has many of them running and takes pride in making them run right, so far I'm more impressed with him them BD though. Personally I would go toward twisted but its hard to say when the dealer knows whats up.

BD started off poorly this year. I was a regular participant in the complaints. The EBC thing was unfortunate for BD and thier customers. They were shooting for the stars and ended up falling a long ways short.

Still, I have to say my BD pump gas M8 works flawlessly out of the box. And they did get me up and going before I missed any trips, so in the end it was all just anoying waiting and waiting. I ended up being a happy customer. Justin at Code Red was great to work with.

In the future, I will not snowcheck a turbo with new gee whiz features. Cash and carry is the way to play...

Every kit has thier problems. I think BD has about 10 times as many on the snow as all other kits combined, so you will hear 10 times the complaints.

Are you on the payroll? Otherwise why does every turbo thread become a "get twisted" chest pounding fest? Reminds me of an energy drink commercial.......
I am sure they make great stuff, but if there is even a 1% chance I will become like a lot of the twisted owners on this board, I will pass.

And the first douche to screw up this thread is... ^^^

actually I think it was 2 posts up with the size 36 font and nothing usefull to add to the post. unless, I guess you are making your turbo purchase decsion on which builder is the "the most twisted"...
