Boondocker turbo for nytro

I've come upon a smoking deal on a new boondocker kit and I'm wondering if this kit is going to put a smile on my face or let me down. I've done searches for people that run one but most of them are older posts. With the new ebc is this a good quality kit, I'm not going to have to wrench on a bunch. Will it hang with the other kits out there? I bought a 2010 nytro se last year with the intention of boost, I rode it stock last year and could barely stand to ride it. I'm coming off a good running rev 800 159. I just want to be happy with my purchase and not regret any decisions.

While I dont know what is different on the new kits, with a few modifications on the old kits they are a fantastic setup.
And yes, they will run with anything out there.

How is the boondocker kit when it comes to lag, is it comparable to impulse or mcx? Also did your kit come with a head shim for more boost or is it necessary to run race gas if I want more boost. I'm hoping this kit will make 240-250hp. I've been researching turbo kits for the last few months and I would like to have an impulse as it seems to be the most solid well liked kit the, but for almost $2,000 less than impulse I can have this boondocker kit installed. I'm just trying to do my due diligence and not make an expensive mistake.

shim it and run pump.. if your not happy with that, turn it up and run race, but for someone coming off a 2 stroke 800 into a stock nytro.. its gonna be WAY fast even on 10-12# on pump.. with a good track thats enough boost for most anyone to get into trouble with, the only time you might want more is if its really deep out, then you might find it lacking a bit.. but not much. its easy to toss around power numbers when your used to 2 strokes.. when your riding up at up at say 3-6k feet(your in WA< decent guess?) then a normal good running 800 is down to like 125hp... and they are fun.. the turbo numbers you throw around are accurate ON THE HILL... dont forget it, 200 on the hill is a LOT. 250 on the hill is crazy, 300 on the hill is retarted.

lag shouldnt be bad at all.. less then an MCX... not quite as good as impulse. With the proper clutching you get used to the different powerband in a hurry.

just food for thought, impulse rocks, but there are other options that will still haul asssss

That's exactly what I wanted to hear, a guy I ride with runs a turbo dragon and I've ridden a stage 3 mpi nytro it was fast just way to finicky and not at all what I'm looking for. I just want good gas and go power and something I'm not going to regret. Thanks for the info. I plan on the turbo kit this year and possibly a track as even stock I found out how much it sucks so it must be magnified with boost. Other than that is there anything esle I really need? I've done wrp boards and oft relocate kit the rest it stock.

Impulses kit looks just like a boondocker kit, with differences in the quality of parts. Lag will be no more or no less then Impulses, to say any different would be ignorant. There are differences in design mind you but, for the most part they look the same. If you think you need the best of everything then Impulse is the way to go. If you can handle having parts that work but are not the best out there, save your coin.

We run 12lbs of boost on avgas. 15lbs we run 112. Stock compression. 9-10,000'

Thanks for your replies, I was doing a little more looking on boondockers sight and I found out they have a 2871 turbo upgrade, is it worth the extra money to get it upfront or is the 2860 good enough. Also I didn't realize you can run that much boost with no head shim, that is good news as I have good access to avgas or race fuel. I ride a little lower though 4,000 to 8,000' so I would have to run a little less boost. If I'm not happy I guess I could lower compression at a later date. Again, I really appreciate the input.

What does boondockers use for a fuel control system. I have never seen one on the hill ever. Thats one reason I love the MCX is because it runs everyday....you have to think long and hard.....reliable running when its deep, what about resale?? 2g.....hmmmm I know alot of guys would pass on that kit just because theres none around.

From what I read on boondockers sight they use their own control box along with auxilary injectors and an auxilary fuel pump. While I haven't heard alot about their nytro kits they sell a ton of 2stroke kits and they seem to run well. I don't really care about the resale as I plan on keeping it a long while, my last sled was 6 years old when I got the nytro. From what I can see it looks like a solid kit, it even comes with a larger fuel tank. If anyone else can tell me the negatives besides resale of this kit I'd like your opinion, thanks

Yes upgrade to the 2871! We started with a 2860 but, the 2871 runs much cooler and pulls harder on the top.
We have never had to touch our Boondocker box at all once tuned for the boost it was running. In fact, I tuned it in by ear for the first year and a half of running before we ever threw a AFR gauge on it to turn it up higher. Seems pretty reliable to me.
As far as not seeing there kits on the hill, the same could be said for MCX around my parts.
But in all honesty, I think Paul has the market cornered down here with his kits. They run well and he stands behind them.
We are extremely happy with our BD Nytro now, but were not at first.

Negatives?
Tank fitment around the plastic.
Lack of heat shielding (They may have this fixed on the newer kits.)
Old style oil tank.(I think they no longer offer this.)

That is all I can think of.

Here is a pic of the tank fitment.

My buddies nytro had a badly cracked header after 2 seasons. I'd be asking if they have improved the way the turbo/header is held up and what they will do about a cracked header after 2 years. 2 Low mile years. I sell remflex gaskets for the apex warping header if anyone needs one.

Know of couple RX1s, apex's that have boondocker turbos. Oiling issues, takes out the engine. 1 kit with collasped header, overheated brakes. So likely why dont see boondocker nytro sleds. People went with the tried & true mcx kit, or the hp monster of impulse.

4000 miles on our BD Apex
2000 miles on our BD Nytro
No engines, oil issues or cracked headers...........Completely stock engines!

bd nytro

I just got done building mine this summer . I took it out for the first time last weekend it ran great . The fuel box kept the a/f at 12.5 all day i bumpped it up to 15psi still the same 12.5 . no lag to speak of . Remenber when you pull the trigger on 250-300 hp you might need a split second to look at the tree you pointed at . while i was buliding it i found that the heat shielding sucked but this is what i done and i have had no heat problems at all .
1 coat and rap your header
2 coat the hot side of turbo
3 keep the radiator
4 go to a hydraulic shop and get a heat sleve for protecting hydrualic hose you can use this to cover turbo water lines and oil drain line i also split it and rapped my wiring harrness in that area . You can buy in differant sizes jic 6 t jic 10 jic 12 jic16 ect.
5 this might come back to haunt me but i wirered fan to come on as soon as the engine starts inorder to pull air across the aftercooler and radiator at the same time it blows air across the turbo and out the side vents .
6 use the money saved on the kit to buy a ez-ride and a chalnger track you will need it :face-icon-small-hap

I run a BD kit on my nytro and it ran flawless for a few rides last year but it developed a fuel problem that I've been chasing. I don't get to ride enough to get it figured out at the moment because I'm stationed in hawaii. When it runs right though it pulls hard! I love the kit and the ebc is great. I can change from 9lbs to 15 in about 10 seconds.

Combine with supertips and a shockwave and its really easy to get it fine tuned.

Edit: found out it hasn't been a fuel problem but a spark plug problem. Leaded fuel is hard on stuff! The down side to a front mount is that its hard to get to the plugs to change them. Thankfully i've had it apart enough times now that it wouldn't take me long to do it.
