Boondocker or PC????

Im kinda confused as to which one I should get. Heres my situation, I have a 2006 M6. I bought a 700 top end that I want to put on. The stock 600 ecu can't be used do to the 06 600 having a pipe sensor. So, that leaves me with 2 options, the boondocker controller or a PCIII. I talked to a tech at speedwerks and he explained that the bd box is easier for the fact that you can make your adjustments on the go from the box. The PCIII you have to connect to a laptop or pc.

And, does anybody have a fuel map for a 700 in different elevations. I ride at home which is 0-1500, and i go to the hills 3000-7000 and the big horns 7000-9000 ft.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated.
thank you
johnny

M6 with M7 top end

we have done this several times with no box runs fine and never burnt one down.

Your saying running the stock 600 ecu?? Ive been told that won't work because of the pipe sensor on the 600 and not having one on the 700.
thanks for the input.

Got your PM, but will answer on here so everybody can get it. I would get on Ebay or swap meet and get a 700 ECU. Here are the reasons.....the 06 and new ECU for the 600 requires the pipe temp sensor input, which you should eliminate. The 700 is going to want the 700 pipe and the 700 pipe is going to flow a lot more air and thus require a lot more fuel. The stock 700 ecu will allow you to run the sled with no PCIII or Boondocker box.

I see the 700 ecus go for $400-600 used. This is basically the same price as a control box and more effective for your application ESPECIALLY if you are doing the big swings in elevation that you are stating. You are going from 1500-9000 feet. The 700 ecu is plug and play. Your other options will all require significant tuning. Hope this helps. Feel free to PM me with specific questions if you require more info.

Will I have to change the wiring harness if I go with a 700 ecu? And, will any of the laydown 700 ecu's work. Like a 2003-2006. thank you

Should not require harness changes. If you can pick, get a 2003 F7 ECU these were rippers! They richened them all up from 2004-2006, but they will work fine as well.

Have your dealer send it in to AC and have them flash it to M7 mapping. I did that with an ECU a few years back. Cost me 40.00.

not true.

This is not true. Dynotech has dynoed all the years ecu's and if you have looked at all the dyno sheets the 05 and 06 ECU's make the most horse power and have the best fuel curves programmed into them. the 03 was waaay lean in the mid and really fat up top. the 04 was a slight improvement over the 03. read before you speak.

Oh, its been a while since I have ridden a dyno. I will not dispute the dynotech results. I am very familiar with them. I have been a subscriber to Jims info for years.

My opinion is only based on riding HUNDREDS of 2003-2006 M6 and M7 sleds with various set ups. Real world testing and real world results.

Maybe you should ride before you speak.

On a lighter note, you can't reprogram the 2006 or new 600 ECU to 700 specs because of the different diode. If it is a 2004-2005 600 ECU you can send it in for a reprogram update to the 700 spec.

dynos arent very fun to ride, they just sit there

I don't dispute that the 03's were fast, but it wasn't just because of thier motor. But if the OP is looking for the best fuel maps the 06 was the best. You mentioned "My opinion is only based on riding HUNDREDS of 2003-2006 M6 and M7 sleds with various set ups." and i am highlighting the key word you used, Setups. The 03's were fast because of thier setups, not because they made more HP than the newer firecats, because they didn't. Theres huge differences between the years, namely chain drive to DD and different primary's and secondary configurations and diameters throughout the years.
IMO the longer the sled is in production the more refined it will be and this includes fuel mapping.

03's were 31 lbs lighter than 04-up Firecats which was one of the major reasons they ripped so hard.
As stated earlier, they were lean in the middle, and way fat on top.

Mine ran much better with the 06 map than with the original 03 map.
