Has anyone tried another bonding agent other than lords or fusor? I need to bond my chain case and the body shops only use 3m products here in town .It is a panel adhesive .

I have no expirence with the 3M products, but I got Fusor at my local NAPA. Maybe an option for you. Otherwise pull the spec sheets and compare the data.

I'm working on a few CF sleds and while researching that I consulted the Glue DR. Online (ellsworth site) and they came back with a different vendor for that. You can specify manufacture in your inquiry so you could effectively get a 3M equivalent recommendation with out the manual comparison of spec sheets. Good luck and share what you find.

I was talking to the guy at the body shop and he said for 10 bucks he would glue the chain case but they only use 3M products . Just trying to save some coin .

For $10 it has to be better than no glue on the early '11's. On the other hand, does the 3M he has heat release if you need to replace something? It would save you $90 from what the gun and a small 50ml cartridge ran me at Napa.

I use 3M #08115 and an SEM #71119 applicator with #08193 mixing nozzles. This stuff bonds well to aluminum and can be rapid cured with mild heat. It debonds with a heat gun at 400 degrees about as good as the Lord adhesive which isn't saying much. The debonding isn't so bad, it's the cleanup that sucks. I have bonded chain cases, tunnel reinforcements, airframe running boards and some non sled stuff with it. It's readily available and not too expensive. The thing that pisses me off is the fact that I've cracked 3 chain cases on as many sleds and I'm getting better at r&r than my dealer!

Allied1...

You seem to have worked with it so I'm not doubting what you are saying...just goes contrary to what I've learned.

I've used the 8115 Epoxy body panel adhesive... and have it in the shop... But have not been able to find out the cold strength properties... Also what has me worried is that 3M specifically says not to use this as a structural adhesive.

Thanks for the heads up!

Something like the 3M Scotch-Weld DP810 Acrylic Adhesive would seem more appropriate... a structural Acrylic adhesive.

In general... epoxy is not as forgiving as acrylic under load... but that may not be as important here???

HMM...

We have used 08115 on many projects for a long time. When SPG Airframes came out for the Pros we used it on sleds for the first time to bond the inner tube to the tunnel. The flexing and cold did not seem to bother so when we had to start debonding and replacing other structural parts we figured why not just keep using the 3M product and it had held up. As far as the epoxy/acrylic goes, I don't think it matters. I also know that we have used this product now for two years on the snow in several applications and it seems to hold up with no known detractions. I didn't want to chime in on previous threads much because of the lack of time testing, but with two years of pounding the Airframes without any problems with the 08115 I'm happy with it. How and why Polaris came up with the Lords adhesive is anyone's guess, other than it's was expensive and difficult to get(sarcasm) until you found a good source for it. I'm starting to not care what Polaris has to say about a lot of things! Seems they are learning many things on our dime anyway. Just sayin. :face-icon-small-coo

Thanks Allied I will check with the auto body shop here in town and see what 3M product they are using .
