OUCH! It's Phatty's fault...he texted me some video from the game but he didn't CHEER hard enough! I think he is a closet TCU fan even though he says not ARGH! Man that was a tough watch. Here's to TCU that was an awesome game and that defense was impressive.
OK Phatty hope things go good at the SUGAR BOWL! Lucky bugger. Have fun man...All I'm going to be doing is some riding.
GO UTES! Phatty turn New Orlean's upside down brotha! Drink all their water...diddy dance wid all da ho's...HAVE A BLAST MY FRIEND (safely)!
Now yes for what was considered a rebuilding year pretty well incredible. Things look very very bright for Boise as they are young and incredibly talented with "more" on the horizon. Barring weirdness and the injury bug they will be top 15 material for the fore-see-able future. Very very impressive when you consider resource wise they aren't even in the top 50.
After the first quarter Davis, May, and Dr. Lou had the game in the bank! I heard comments like BSU is making a statement bla bla bla. Well when you are up under two possessions it ain't even remotely over and low and behold it certainly wasn't.
Now because I wasn't there and because from TV you don't get to see the entire scope of what is going on it's very difficult to make intelligent comments on play and coaching. This is what I saw and what I know.
TCU won the game by sticking to a plan or formula. BSU defense was absolutely exhausted and the first TD scored late in the first half was the direct result of that fact. BSU's defense, as all teams are at the end of a season, was depleted in skill players so they simply could not substitute to stay strong and continue to hold that type of offense with so many opportunities. If you watch Boise play over the season you would know that the first guy rarely misses a tackle yet by the middle of the second quarter the TCU running backs were breaking tackle after tackle and racking up the downhill yards. You could see the difference between the first quarter and the second and I could see it coming. The only hope was a strong extended offensive drive by BSU to give them a break yet it never came and TCU scored an easy TD to keep them in the game.
Now had things gone slightly differently in a couple of key areas BSU would have had a monster lead which TCU was not the type of team equipped to deal with that. It could have and probably should have been 21 - 0 or possibly 24-3 at the half and that is a lock for BSU. All of the uncharacteristic red zone mistakes and drive killing let downs in the critical times allowed TCU to keep with their game plan and thus win. You need two complete defensive units to play that much time and be competitive at that level and BSU had one good one with a couple of ? marks. That and a lot of plan old good fortune most of which was made from being a very good team. Once again it was a great game but it was brutal to watch and I so wanted BSU to stomp so Mark May would STFU (though he never would).
So in summation: Moore was not sharp...what was remaining of BSU's O-line was outmanned and exposed...BSU needed to keep a pace pressure offensively that was successful but they pulled back a gear (it's their offensive MO and you'll see they correct it in the future) to settle in to their normal dominance. (so yes in those terms maybe they were "outcoached") I argue that they were out excecuted and with a depleted young team that was the results. BSU has a great coaching staff and this "lesson" is in the bank. (bet you!)
