blue marble oil

Found this on Doo Talk

We have recently inspected a couple of engines that have been running the latest version of Blue Marble Oil..

We suspect the the BM formula has changed for this season (and maybe last). We ran this oil for 4 years with great success.. Latest testing has shown excessive carbon build up on the rings and valves. In fact, one particular engine had so much carbon built up on the rings and in the ring land.. that the piston ring could not get back in the land and actually snagged a port..
We could not even get the rave valves out of the cylinders because there was excessive build up on the valve and in the rave slot,as well..

So, while I hate to do this.. I have to suggest that if you are running the latest BM oil.. you may want to change it out..

This is upsetting, because I really do think the oil has better lubrication than some of the others.. But the excessive build up /soot/ carbon.. is not a positive thing

Some more

QUOTE (MountainMaster @ Jan 31 2008, 05:16 PM) *
I have had great success with Amsoil Interceptor. Have used it in all my 2 strokes(bikes, chainsaws, etc) for many years.
But, RKT says NOT to use it.
The last time I pulled my motor apart (after 4,000km) The thing was SPOTLESS inside. Rave guillotine and bellows still moved flawlessly, and NO carbon or oil spooge build up anywhere. and the inside of the head and top of the pistons amazed me at how clean it had been burning... Not lean, clean...
But, after talking to RK and getting some work done, I have switched to XPS Synthetic... Just because I don't know what else to run, and I don't think you can go wrong with Doo oil.
Any other opinions....??

And by Injex, do you guys mean the Phillips 66 oil. Because I can get Phillips 66 Injex and Synjex down the street for cheap... But, I thought it was exactly that...cheap

I am also using Injex Pro now, and think it works well.. I have heard good about legend also, but have never used it..

Amsoil.. YUP.. no build up at all in the engine.. anywhere... Looks like it was new... IMHO.. this is not a good thing.. Too slippery, not attachment to bearing surfaces .. Lost many rod bearings with Amsoil.. IMHO, it has issues in a sled engine.... Of course, ,this is only base don my experience but I have conversed with MANY other shops who agree,, To each his own.. Interceptor will never be run in any of my sleds and I feel strongly enough to put a "non-rec"/ "Do not use" in my instructions..

PLEASE PLEASE do not turn this into an Amsoil discussion.. This is not the point of this thread... The point is: The latest BM seems to have some issues... Please keep it on track..

I had issues with the "old" BM as well, corrosion. This was 3 years ago and I ran it for almost 2 full seasons, not sure what has really changed if anything. I have heard from others with the same findings. And remember, a spotless engine is one that has no protection, oil has to be present to do its job and protect the engine. People say "my engine is so clean" and IMHO this is not a good thing. Neither is excessive build up on the EV's. I run cheap petroleum oil and have not had a problem and have never heard of anyone having oil related issues using basic oil. Lots of good, proven oils out there to risk trying something that is questionable.

i quess i will stick with doo oil then if even amsoil is ify. i had been told that was good but i had heard the same about BM as well. i was just wondering though thanks for the info.

I have been running BM in 2 - snowmobiles (1-600SDI, 1-800 Ptek), 1 - 22ft Seadoo boat, 1ea - quickie saw and tamper at my construction company, the additive ingredient in BM in the oil in 16 vehicles for the past 2 years. Zero problems great, clean protection. But when you ask the BM question be prepared for the "oooooooh evil oil" answers. Kind of like asking a Yamaha guy about Doo. BM is good oil, as are most others. If you're tired of the smell of standard oils then go Etec or BM.

I never knew that a Navy base could be so desolate, then I spent 3 years at China Lake. I feel your pain. I sure miss working on jets though.

i have never been to china lake but i have freinds out there and my wife went there when she was active, so i consider my self lucky. but i have been to yuma and that place sucks more than here

Incase you want more opinions I have started using Klotz and so far it's good stuff, smells the best outta all oils.
I did my research and found a few cheaper oils that would work like Citgo Snow & Sea which is a semi-syn and meets all requirements, use it in the wifes sled and works good.
Arctic Blue is another cheap but good oil and you can get it in full syn.
Both oils are around $10-15 a gallon.

Only reason I don't use either in mine is cause I spent A LOT of money on my motor and it just gives me more peice of mind running Klotz.
I've haven't really heard anyone say anything bad about Klotz and on here I think that says a lot.
Plus Klotzlubemn on here sells it for $26 a gallon and I go to MN every summer so no shipping.
