blown head light bulbs

13 PRO 600 RMK, had the side panels and hood off today, put everything back on and plug in the main wire conntector for the hood, started the sled and the headlights burnt out shortly after I started it, hand warmers still work, tail light and guage work as well, any ideas before I install the new bulbs, thanks

Tail light and gauge do not work off the same voltage regulator as the headlights and warmers.

Do you have electric start?

Check the Voltage, A/C at the headlight connector or the "AC PWR" connector in the pouch over the clutch cover.

Have you added anything to the electrical system whatsoever?

.

no electric start, I checked voltage at the visor connector that I installed last year, it is the one from Polaris that plugs directly in to the two wire connector in the pouch on the steering post, it was 14.58, is this same circuit as the headlights or the handwarmers, I have not installed any new electrical items, I had the air box off, so I had to disconntect the CPU, air flow sensor and the two wire connector that runs along the airbox on the clutch side, all are reconnected, which is the AC plug in the pouch that is on the clutch side, thanks

The "visor connector" runs through a 2amp fuse connected to the ECU voltage regulator, it's DC power... so no... that is no indication of the Headlight AC voltage... That is the completely separate VR in the same case as the other one... yellow wire, Brown wire and orange/green wire.

Test at the AC test connection or the headlight connecter... make sure you rev the engine when testing.

Did you run the sled at all with the hood off the sled??

It's the one labeled "AC PWR" right on the connector.

Check the plug to the voltage regulator on the cover over the clutch.

A friend of mine pulled out one of the connectors when changing plugs, the light got super bright for a couple secs and burnt out.

Yep... rydningen is spot on... If the rubber 3 terminal connector is not plugged in or loose... then the voltage will "runaway" on the Yellow Lighting circuit.

I didn't even cross my mind that that would be off...

Thanks for the good post

2001 700 blowing Dim lights bulbs

worked fine for months now blows dim bulb after a few hours. statred happening after a belt was blown. 2001 Polaris 700 classic. also started after I started using heated visor.:face-icon-small-fro

I did not run it with the hood off, I will check the plug connection and then voltage, what voltage should I see if the regulator is good, thanks for all the help

checked the connections this afternoon, seemed OK, unplugged then and check the pins, reconnected them. at the AC plug voltage was 14.24 at idle and 9.7 at 4000 rpm

Where, exactly, were you probing... Which AC plug?

Have you ever crashed the sled or hit the front bumper hard?
Check the "wad" of brown ground wires that are attached to the front bumper mount bolt on the overstructure... see if that is cracked or loose?

Sounds like you may have a Bad Voltage regulator...

if you do, you can either replace the original one... OR... go with a separate unit (thats what I recommend)...

I was checking the voltage in the puch, by the clutch guard, plug was marked AC power, I did check the grounds looked OK never chrashed the sled, only thing I did recently was removed the clutch guard so I could get the air box out, what are the part #'s for the separte regulators you are reccomending, thanks

mountainhorse, I checked the thread out I can only find one part # 4010794, do I just use that regulator and the existing one I have, I just unplug the three wire plug from the existing one and plug it in to the 4010794, what is the advantage of this, if not deleting headlights, other than cost, thanks for the help

Yes... just uplug the 3 wire and plug it in.

Cost yes... Plus you are not taxing the ECU regulator with extra heat if yours blows.

Not that I think of it... If your Lighting/Charging VR went... might just want to replace the factory 2013 unit for backountry reliability and peace of mind... keep the old as a backup spare.

I spoke with my dealer last week, and it was decided they could warranty the regulator and head lights. Just installed all items, all is working again, thanks for all the help

Also just an fyi because I havent seen anybody mention it. Halogen bulbs do not react well with human hands. If you touch the bulb itself the oil that comes naturally from our hands can create a "hot spot" on the bulb greatly reducing its life.

You said you had the hood off just not sure if you mentioned taking the bulbs all the way out or not.
