Blew a belt

I blew a belt to today on my '02 700. It was a stock belt that only had about 500-700 miles on it and when I bought the sled the previous owner blew the original belt within the first 500-700 miles. The sled only has around 1,300 miles on it and I'm wonderin' why it keeps blowing belts so easy. When these belts come apart they make one hell of a mess with all the kevlar fibers that get shreded up and what not. Is this a clutch alignment issue? thanks

I do think an allignment problem

I went and blew up 2 belts,After buying an allignment tool, i blew up another..This is my first doo, i bought it with a blown motor and had problems out of the gate...so i took it to the local doo shop and spent the $$$$ And it has been the best thing i have done to date. good luck...

500 to 700 on doo is not bad, dont think it is a alinment poblem have you taken the clutches off and cleand them? I would do this every 500 miles or sooner. when they our dirty it cam make one stick some and the other one is working ok it will slip the belt and shoten the life of the belt. after you put on a new belt ride it for 10 or 15 miles then get in there and check if there is black on eather of the clutches. if there is is it more on one side or the same on both sides. if if is one one side of the drive clutch it needs alinment. if it is on both sides of eather clutch it needs cleaned and or the set up is not right:face-icon-small-coo

Do you think an aftermarket belt would be better like a dayco? My biggest concern is the belt cordage unraveling and getting pulled into the pto seal behind the primary...

there are a couple things ya can do before dropping it off at a dealer :face-icon-small-sho$$$$ - verify the clutch alignment ,clean the clutches in & out, check if the springs have sagged or broken,check clutch bushings,check the engine mounts,make sure the snubber on the brace is set correctly (snugged but not "tight"),your track tension, check the condition of all the bearings in the skid (+ drive axle bearings) just to name a few...i had some belt issues with my old 700 and it turned out to be a warped (bent?) engine plate which also was an apparent issue with some zx's (dunno how that would happen???:face-icon-small-con but it did)
on a side note- i had also been getting crappy fuel economy on my 800 till i changed out the upper rear wheel in the tunnel that was chewing itself to death on the spring:face-icon-small-fro so it pays to check through everything when problems start to pop up because it might not be caused by something "inside the box".good luck!

Have never blown a belt on the 6 or so Doos I've owned. Had my 02 since that year, never blown a belt. Make sure your alignment is good. Buy the tools to service your clutches, if the belt starts getting worn, put a new one on. I've been running the Ultimax 3's the last 2-3 years and had real good service from them, they're a little harder than the Doo belts , probably run a little warmer pulling in deep snow but are tough enough to handle it.
If you get stuck, gotta know when not to push it and smoke a belt, wearing the O.D. or putting an hourglass in it. I gave up on the 617 Doo belts, but didn't get that bad of service from them either.
Do what has been suggested in the previous posts and you should be good to go, if you're not familiar with clutch servicing, get a manual and follow it, or hook up with a good dealer and learn how to service and set up your clutches.
Good luck.:peace::rockon:

the daycos aren't a bad belt the guys i ride with run the hpx's belts on there newer Polaris and never had a problem with them. I have blown 2 dayco's and 1 ski-doo belt with mine but the 2 daycos are the HPX 5019 and then i had a guy at work do some looking for me and he found a XPX 5019 that is a lot harder belt that would compare with the ski doo belt i run.

I ran 900 miles on my belts look great? (02 700) I pulled them cleaned them really well (both clutches and belts) and put a torque arm on then aligned them. Also I took a fine sand paper and sanded the faces of my clutches. Like summit8 said check your belts I check mine before every ride.

What Dayco belt are you guys all running I was going to switch this year?
