black stuff in plug wires...

So upon getting my 2011 pro ready for the season I pulled the spark plugs to change them out and notice a black like soot on top of the plugs as well as inside the wire caps. Is this normal? I don't recall ever seeing this kind of build up where the spark plug and wire cap meet? I used a Q-tip to try and clean it out.

Maybe its some sort of product used during production??

Sorry for the crappy photo.

That black stuff is SOOT.... The result of a loose cap allowing the ignition to arc to the spark plug.

Did you ever experience any ignition cut outs?

It is common to have some black soot on your plugs and caps. They should be cleaned as regular maintenance. I clean the caps with electronic cleaner first, and then put dielectric grease on the plug tops. The grease helps stop the arcing (makes a better connection). Make sure that the caps are snug as mentioned above and your good to go.
