Bike and kit weights

Just doing some weight measurements: 2016 YZ450FX with gas tank full, 2 gal, plus 129 Yeti = 314#. My over night survival supplies, silky saw, shovel, 2 liters water and 2 gallons of gas in the Yeti can = 47# for a total of 361#. Not as light as I would like. I see the lighter weights on the new KTMs but after studying where the weight reduction comes from a lot of that reduction is in the take-off parts. It would be interesting to know what the weight reduction is just on the snow bike parts. Has anyone evaluated it?

2 gallons of gas weighs 12 pounds. The 129 track compared to 120 inch track has got to be 2 or 3 pounds difference I guess. That puts an FX with 120 inch yeti no fuel at about 300 lbs? Not bad if it's only 10 pounds heavier than the lightest bike on the market!
Can that be right?

First pic is from last spring my 16 Yzfx mounted upnto a 16 timber 120 full of fuel , second pic is my fx mounted to my 17 yeti 129" full of fuel . The new yeti rocks !

I'm guessing a lot of the weight reduction on the KTM is in the parts you remove to convert it to a snow bike thus you lose that advantage. It would be interesting if anyone has the numbers for where the KTM weight reduction is applied.

Cmx weight versus yeti

I saw in another post that a CMX 120 with the KTM 450 was around low 290s also. Does this mean that the CMX and the yeti weigh the same? Anyone confirm this?

That's interesting for sure. In the super hero build thread, they state that the cmx is very close in weight to the TS

OK so I found that other thread.

That seems confirmed to me. Has anybody Weighed just the kits themselves back to back?

That's great that cmx has a kit at that weight which seems to be holding up great and riding awesome!

The CMX is strong and with the yeti front end and some TI and carbon parts on our shops Factory edition 450 sx we are just under 290. The CMX also has a shallower approach angle and overall length tip to tail with a 129 is exactly same as the 2017 Timbersled 120.

Oh ya, not sure.
If the cmx is as light as the yeti they need to be advertising that!

they are not all that far off, However with the factory edition SX with Ti exhaust and some other goodies the whole build is right there with a Yeti 450 XC build, The suspension doesn't need the 3rd shox which saves weight and is very plush, No tail kick

Bike+Kit+Fluids+Rider=Fat Bastard

With all clothing, protection/kneebrace/backbrace, avypack, 3litreswater, shovel, survival gear, first aid kit, lunch kit, handful of tools, towstrap, boots, googles, helmet, sparesocks, glovesx2pr, undergarments plus the FATBASTARD (me) 235lb that puts all this crap on 65lb I weigh as much as my Snowbike! The one thing let me tell you all is worth it's weight in GOLD, do not leave home without it, is one roll of good two ply toilet paper, sold one on the mountain last week to the highest bidder for $50.00, paid for my gas and nitrous. Ha ha outsmarted them all, I carry two rolls, ya just never know...might need to start a fire or something...or put one out!:eyebrows:

Mine

My exc 500 -12 with 136" Tedesled kit and with all tools, extra fuel, aluminium skid plate and all ready to go was 313 lbs. I can easily shave of 6 lbs from that by removing the aluminium skid plate and just use a plastic one for snow protection and remove tugging rope, first aid kit etc that I presume is excluded in the weight by most. Still for me it feels most honest to weight it the way I ride it out when I ride. Just my 2 cents

What are the 17/18 kits & bikes weighing it at?

Searched for this thread and thought it good to keep it going for the 17/18 season.

Post up folks!
