Was just wondering if the winter range boundries are marked in the Bighorns, mainly concerned with the area west of hwy 14 south of 14A. It appears the winter range gets fairly close to 14A on the nw corner. If it is not marked can someone tell me what natural features might help in defining the area.

I would not go west of Hunt Mountain (ridge that runs North and South) south of 14A.......pretty rugged country over there anyway. Just my 2 cents.

Off the hunt mountain road I don't believe it is marked other then you would have to ride through a gate in the fence.

But since it is on a lower benches off the edge of the mountain there really is no reason to go down there. It is the dry side of the mountain and the snow really doesn't accumulate till you are on top. Also like beefspots said, it is rough and that combined with low snow conditions makes it difficult to get back up if you are not wise about what you are dropping into. That is the country that the guy's from Gillette got stranded in last year.

Thanks for the replies, I was just hoping Hunt Mtn road wasn't the border. We could see the low snow area in the distance but were still what appeared to be several miles north.
