Biggest factor in weight loss between IQ and Pro chassis?

What does everyone think is the biggest contributing factor to the drastic weight loss between the IQ and Pro chassis?

What is the weight difference between skids?

Easy, pretty much everthing was reduced a little bit, that equals a whole bunch when you add it all up.
Really no comparison between the 2 chassis (i've had both btw) the iq even with tons of mods is not as good as a stock pro chassis. My riding buddies dragon/860 with about 25K in it total will only top the pro in power. Everywhere else the pro shines. He rides his '12 pro and the dragon just sits in the trailer if that tells you anything.

Biggest factor IMO...

Listening to Chris (and the mountain segment in general).

They actually listened when he told them weight mattered, and they implemented ideas to make it happen.

It's what cat doesn't do with their riders, and why they're falling so far behind.

I own both and I can tell you that the aluminum cast bulkhead the and the bonding probably is one big factor but the other posters are right a little bit here and there and ever where really adds up. And the chassis just feels a lot more rigid. Love it. Still like my IQ as well though. Prefer the pro.

The big factors... In weight loss...

Rear skid
Aluminum ovesrtructure.
Body panels/hood.
Silencer.
Cooloing system made smaller.

A lightweight Dragon, with all the goodies on it (without going to Ti parts)... you will have a 440 lb sled.

This accounts for the bulk of the reduction, but as said above... all the little things add up.... Then, when you step up to a 2013.. you get the additional loss of lighter drive system and even lighter silencer.

The handling is a mix of some different factors... Lower CG of the motors rotating mass.. narrow body work, steering mechanism action/interplay with rider and the motor just seems to "work better".

Even with lots of mods, you will not turn a Dragon into the technical riding machine that the PRO is... If that is what you are leaning towards... the weight loss is just part of the story.

my 2 cents.

Just trying to determine how much of an impact a Pro skid will have on my IQ. I can't swing a Pro this year, so this is more of a stop gap move.

I loved my D7 and D8 and they were great sleds (no motor problems). The rear skid was terrible on the IQ chassis. Those sleds would trench and had terrible suspension attributes. But that skid didn't weigh much, buying another skid will knock off a few pounds but will probably help more in transfer. I know you said you can't afford a Pro but I'd work on getting one over modifying an IQ that you know you will be dumping soon.

Lightweight tunnel assembly.

I've seen a lot of bent tunnels on the Pro (including my own). Some places you just can't sacrifice weight.

Properly valved rear suspension for your weight will save ur tunnel. When the suspension bottoms out hard, the energy transfers into the chassis. And yes, polaris did lighten the tunnel, but it works great as long as its used properly... But the old running boards sucked..(thank goodness for airframes)

My shocks are properly valved and it did not save my tunnel. Hitting a tree with my spindle is what tweaked my tunnel. I don't think I hit it hard enough to kick the a$$ end of the sled out enough to buckle the tunnel behind the secondary, I beleive it was from thin material.

I've got a stock 155 pro skid that I will sell you. Not much use on it as I replaced it with a Timbersled. Let me know if you are interested.

I already picked up skid, but thanks. What are you asking for it, I might know of someone.

I am sooooo sick and tired of you Cat guys coming on this forum and bashing why don't you go back to YOUR forum.... ummmm... wait a minute you are saying that cat is behind... ok that's fine but don't you DARE start coming on here and posting up the short comings of the new POO:face-icon-small-ton on my forum!
Extraspecially after you have ridden one as your primary sled for a season. Fricken Cat and Doo guys are stoopids and their sleds are the worstestest:face-icon-small-win
