All I can say is welcome to the truck world and I would have stuck with KW. Its a wonder anyone even has hair left on their head after owning one since they spend most of their time pulling it out.

Peterbilt or Kenworth only way to go. Stay away from a cat motor they will no longer be avalible in onroad trucks after 09 or 10. I have a fleet of KWs and Petes they are all the same with problems. Cummins motor has been great.

Depends on what your doing with it. If your gonna be working off road/crappy roads alot, go with the mack. The frame is tough as hell. If not look elsewhere.

I personally have a Mack, but my truck is mostly used on job sites or hauling into crappy places.

BTW, I do get errors all the time too. Pisses me off, but my frame looks brand new.

Spec the truck for the job to be done. Mack is a good brand for heavey duty application. Their power train is strong and dependable. Just poor resale when you get rid of it. Kenworth and Peterbilt hold value better than any other manufacturer. As far as I'm concerned, Cat dropped the ball after 2003 with their motors. Cummins is all you find in new units these days, hardly any Cats anymore.....what a turn around from a few years ago. Freightliner,Westernstar,Volvo,and International can be speced the same for less money with multiple power train options. They all have good points and bad. New unit-warranty the piss out of it and cross your fingers. Personally, I'd find a good used truck with the buggs worked out of it and go to work :beer;

Worked for a truck company that bought a new GMC straight truck, drove it 10miles from the dealership with 10miles on it to the building. Then drove it from Brandon SD to Waseka MN to get the cargo box put on at Delta Waseka overnight. Drove back to Brandon SD and shut it off while I got ready to goto Memphis TN to deliver it. Next morning start it up to see a check engine light. Sat at the Caterpillar dealer for 3hours while they diagnose it. problem code came back with an issue with no current resolution! (WTF!). Anyway they say it should be good for the trip. So I drove it down there and wound up getting lost in the wrong neighborhood in Memphis but finally found my way and parked it with the guys recieving the new truck. I find out after I fly back that they hadn't been able to start it since. Truck was in and out of the local cat dealer there for over a month. Makes me glad that when I was lost I didn't shut her down when I made the call to the warehouse and the guy told me "DUDE! LOCK THE DOORS AND JUST DRIVE UNTIL YOU SEE WHITE PEOPLE THEN CALL ME BACK! JUST GET OUT OF THERE!"

Dad's rig 2005 KW Transfer setup gross 104,000 up 18% grades C15 motor 18spd

I drive a 2005 KW 4 Axel pull a tilt deck and 3 axel pup ISX motor 18spd in the summer

I would own the ISX motor if I put on allot of miles and did not stop for extended periods at a time. But I would never ever buy one for a gravel truck or log truck or any truck that you are going stoplight to stoplight or up in the steep and rough mountain gravel roads. The ISX does not lug at all when I put it against the C15 also the C15 is smooth on the throttle and the power at 7000ft + is allot better. The ISX holds it's own but just not near as smooth on the power and is harder on fuel in the mountains. Now if I were a over the road driver I might do the ISX.

But the KW trucks have been bullet proof in our areas can't say much of anything bad about them.

Also as far as Cat motors being in the trucks allot of places are not going to shell out the extra 4-7K for the Cat motors.

I've got a buddy whos a servise manager for kenworth. Says they make nothing but money on cat engines. Especially the twin turbo junk.

I have a 625 Cat twin turbo and runs great ..just rolled over 626000 K

I pulled maxed out super Bs up and down the Alaska hiway...never left me on the side of the road ..

gobs of power with an 18 double behind it 46000 rear ends, not a real fuel miser but hey ...no replacement for displacement

replaced the turbos once on warranty, valve set ...thats it ...

Same with our C-15 I just love how smooth the power comes on makes a 12-16+hr day feel like a 8hr day well worth the extra $$ in my book when you are shifting all day long in the hills. Only had a turbo stud back out once next day aired the part in had it going 3hrs after that.

ISX has never had problems other than lots of boost line problems and coolent lines but those are easy to fix

Snow how much boost you running see 55-58lbs on a cold winter day ISX only pulls
35-40lbs
