Big Props to Neurosurgeon Dr. Zimmerman in Boise...5 days after surgery..Pics added
I have to give big credit to Dr. Zimmerman in Boise 5 days ago he took on a surgery that no one else would touch to remove surgical cement from my spinal canal. For two and a half hours he worked under a microscope with 1 and 2 millimeter drill bits to slowly chip the cement away and free my spinal cord. Almost immediately after surgery I could tell a difference.
The big unknown going into surgery was whether or not a fusion of T12 to L 2 would be necessary which would mean a 9 to 12 month recovery. He did not have to fuse and I should be in pretty good shape within a couple of months.
I get to sled next season!
Here's a couple of pictures that show what was done...
This first image shows the cement that was injected into the vertebra that leaked into the spinal canal. The cement was suppose to stabilize the vertebra not go into the canal.
The second image is the same vertebra is cleaned but it shows that all of the cement was not remove. The procedure that I had done this past week was to finish the job that was not done the first time. The worse part was that the cement was behind the spinal cord which made it a very hard procedure.
