BIG Northern Pike Pics anyone??

F
Anyone catch any big PIKE this year??? Here is the 42"er I caught in MN last year. I have been stuck in Colorado all year and didnt get a chance to make it out at all this year!

POST YOUR PIKE PICS! Hardwater or Summer Fishing!

Screw it, post any pike pics....big or small!

Kalamojakka anyone? We use the pike for it, great meal.

Anyways, here is my 20lber I caught shore fishing two summers ago. Neat way of fishing too. You take a bait-casting reel with 20lb+ line on it. A medium/heavy rod, and a leader, sinker, and trebel hook, and a cisco, a relative of the hering. Anyways, you string the leader through the frozen cisco and attach it to your line, with the treble hooked on the end of the leader. You take a boat and pull the bait out deep into the lake while someone on shore holds the rod so no mishaps take place. You drop it down and let it sink to the bottom. You set the rod down on shore, tie it off, leave the bail loose and put a piece of tape on the line, next to the rod. If a fish takes the bait, the line will go out, thus pulling the tape out. You sit and play cards, drink, eat, whatever while you are watching your rod. (Canadian rules say you have to be within a certain distance of your line, so we just set them up very close to camp, to avoid any law breaking.)

Anyways, here is my pike I caught doing the above method.

It was too pretty, and awesome to keep, so we set it back after measuring it, this is a replica made from the measurements and pictures of the fish.

My dad with a 17lber he caught using my previously stated method. He was cooking a roast in the coals of the fire when his tape went sailing out into the lake. The reel was unwinding so fast we heard it from the fire pit. Anyways, long story short, he was a VERY happy man.

That's me in the background.

I will have to do some digging and find them.. have a couple of hardwater caught 24 and 25lb pike.. and a couple open water 30 pound muskies.. :D

thats the pics i have seen before 55# 56" the northern in it's mouth is 36" if remember right. it come from rainy lake. canadian side i imagine. thats the way they landed it it never let go of the little one

I had the biggest one i've ever had on this summer. Got it right to the boat and wasn't using a steal leader and it bit up the line and got off. Can't be exact, but I'd guess it was well over 40". That's an absolute monster for my neck of the woods. I was really depressed after that. Good thing we had beer

Interesting

I always wondered what the story behind those pics was. Thanks! I just ot those pics in an email one day but didn't get any info. Cool.

I'm burned out on Pike fishing.
On our farm is an old open coal mine that was shut down in the 60's
Filled with water, deepest is around 30 feet, mostly pike in it and pearch.
We shore fish casting over the old submerged road leading into the mine.
The pike run up and down the road to feed on smaller fish in the weeds.
We have contests to see who can catch the most in an hour with just a spoon.
Seen some huge pike in there as well as 15 to 20 pounders with huge bite marks on them.
It has been a long time since we floated out there with a depth finder. The last time was with a depth finder that read fish by squares represent 1 foot. We floated over fish that were 4, 5 and 6 squares
Night fishing from a pontoon at around 10 on night we had one surface along side in the lighted water. No fish story... it was nearly as long as my 7 foot fish pole, easy. We call him Walter

P.S. Gimp, I'd be scared of Walter.

I won't swim out there !!!
As the mine begen to seep water in during the 40's, my grandfather started selling minnows out of there. We are just off the bigwater. As the mine filled, my Great uncle Chestly would take pearch from Lake Ilo (he was caretaker there) put them in our mine and take pike from our mine to put in the lake.
There is a pond off to the side of the mine. Used to be where they kept the stoker coal. When the mine's water level is high enough, it will fill the pond. I have pulled 18 pound pike out of that hole and 2 pound pearch are not rare. We stand on old car body roofs half covered with water, with a bare hook and have pearch contests. Last time I measured that pond (10 years ago) it was 17 feet deep and crystal clear water.

That sounds like a really cool place. Sometimes I really miss N.D. Was a great place to grow up. Endless hunting and fishing. Washington is almost comical in comparison. Theres always more people than game here.

Pike

Good to see there is some other pike fanatics out there!

I have fished Manitoba, and all over in MN but the 42 incher was the biggest. I let it swim, for another lucky guy to snag again.

Sawyer......have you ever fished Coeur d' Alene? I have been doing research on where to try to catch a 30 pounder this year and all signs point there.

Gimpster...sounds like you have quite the hot spot!

Flakey...looks like your brother wont be starving anytime soon!

Yeah I've fished there a lot. There are some big ones in there. I fish the chain lakes a lot above it. The are about 7 chain lakes that branch off the Coeur d alene river that drains to the lake. We always put in way up the river fish about half of the chains and then make it down to couer d alene. Takes us a whole weekend but it's fun
