big jumps and drops, would you perfer wider assault stance or normal ski width?

it seems like the normal here and everywhere is people on the stock pro RMK's running narrow or mid, rarely wide. and assaults always on narrow with mixed results.

the vast majority gos narrow most of the time, When it comes to what the assault what actually build for, jumps drops and hill climbing, is there a point you then prefer wider than the norm? are the Jackson hole hillclimbers running a wider stance than popular?
Are the 100foot drop huckers running wider as well?
what do you guys go with for this kind of riding?

I ran a wide front end for the early part of the season. Hit a couple bigger jumps than I have ever hit and it was super smooth. Really thought I liked the front end. Then I rode a stock width pro again and realized how much easier it was to sidehill. Narrowed my assault up to pro width and kept the assault shocks. I went back and hit the same exact jump with the narrow front end and it was just as smooth. The good shocks make a huge difference. The narrow is just better all around imo. For hill climb racing where the object is to keep the sled flat and fast the width is definitely beneficial. Some of those guys are running 44-48 inch wide.

Here's a pic of that jump for reference.

Yea... Matt has a couple of screws loose... must be all those potato fumes gassiing out the cab of the JD!!

.

Yeah plates and screws in both ankles and an ACL, MCL, and Patella rupture and that will "somewhat" fix the brain.

But for the question at hand.....If you are talking total stock front end Assault to RMK....then give me the Assault. I like the wider stance for jumping.

I think you want the Assault for the chaincase, steel driveshaft, steel a-arms and the shocks. The matching parts fitted to the Pro are not as well suited to your type of riding. I doubt you can probably even feel the difference unless you go down to a 36". Even then, the sled is really easy to balance on.

Had I not found a smokin deal on a Pro, I would have bought a holdover Assault. Still really light, arguably more durable, better shocks. The ski stance never was a concern for me.

I assure you there is a massive difference between a 41.5" assault stance and a 39" pro stance. You can definitely feel it. The shocks are sweet and the steel parts are nice but you can definitely feel the width. 36" would be that much more noticeable again.

I've ridden both an assault and pro back to back, same day, same conditions multiple times. I've never been in a situation that I prefer the assault stance. Jumps, drops, pow, trees, etc, doesn't matter. I don't do any racing so that situation could be significantly different. I did upgrade all four of my shocks as the stock pro shocks kinda suck, way too soft (I'm 180-200) as has been stated many time before.

this is the info I realy needed, I have a 2012 assault and have allways hated my wider stance, I have done some decent jumps and drops but I have never done them prior to my current sled, since my a arm just met a rock I have a great chance to upgrade narrow for not to much more money than over priced Polaris replacement.

thanks for the info guys

I've never had a problem riding my 12' assault in the narrowest position. Neither had my fiancé. But i do agree the pro stance is a tad easier

I have an assault and works great for me but I can already tell that if you like to get the sled sideways off the jump face then the narrow front is king. I will be switching mine to a narrow front this summer.
