Big iron shootout

The two biggest probs I heard of from 2006 were ALOT of garbage left on the hill and $250,000.00 of damage to newly planted trees("cut blocks" as powder puff said) from sleds riding over them.People were told to stay on the trails until the top and that rule was not followed by everybody.

I rode in revy all year in 06 and the cut blocks always had tracks in them, not just the day of the BIS. Dont know how they contribute all the damage to one day??? The same people that rode in the cut blocks that day rode there days prior also, when there was less snow covering the trees.

Who has a good idea how to make the club feel better about this years BIS? Lets not keep on pointing out why it wont work and come up with some ideas of how we can make it work. I like the idea of on that one day of the year we raise money for a charity, everyone up the mountain that day member or not pays a fee. No trophy to the winner of anything, just a bunch of prizes handed out after a ride to whoever. Kind of like yamafest was, everyone has fun lots of chit got climbed but no trophy. You get to have just as much fun with no negative spin.

They (government) will be watching very closely on the day of the shootout. Why mess up year after year of great sledding, right next to town, for one weekend of the event.

I think this is a great idea. Everybody wants to "win" something, but I fear eventually someone is going to get hurt trying something that maybe they should not.
As soon as something is called a competition, the mindset definately changes. I think you and I are going to hit everything we feel safe trying, and I really hope everybody else does the same.

As far as guys riding in the cutblocks... They are clearly marked for the most part, but you know how it goes, some douche has to ignore the signs.

and if it's about cutblocks being illegally ridden in, then i'll kick in for some bundles of survey stakes and tape on the friday, and take some pic's of any tracks that might be there prior to flagging. and yes i'd take it down also.

I wish Somebody would ask for help because its seems there is no shortage of people willing! Mike I think the charity idea is awsome, nobody could say anything negative about that!

If money is ever the factor on boulder anytime id certainly be willing to pay more, im a club member so i dont pay but id think nothing about 20 a day for regular season rides. Even 40 a day is stupid cheap entertainment as long as it it goes to the right place. For the cost of the sleds, meals and hotels the trail pass is a non factor, the club should have raised it long ago.

Ironman, I like the way you think. My point about cutblocks, they have the crap rode out of them all year and blame it on BIS. Could be a scapegoat was needed for that one?? Raising money for a charity is an awsome idea. How do we take that idea to the next step? What charity? I think avalanche awareness/training could be a good one and impacts all mountain riders.
I lost a friend in the Harvey Pass accident this year.

As far as the cutblocks would it not make sense to have the FS patrol the areas first thing in the morning when people head up the trail and write tickets?
Not only would they generate some revenue, but also once the word got out I would think people would stay on the trail.

I can`t say anything on behalf of the club or society, someone really should talk to them.
The cutblock thing was not a scapegoat. There was damage done at that time, enough for concerned parties to take note and then there were section 58`s (motorized closures) put on the cutblocks on Boulder and Frisby. The club and society also had to put in place the maximum capacity policy because of concerns from other groups because of other incidents that happened at the BIS 2006 to be able to keep their management agreements for Boulder and Frisby. You can see it posted on every page of the sled revy site and it has been there since 2006.

I don't feel that it's fair, and anybody who thinks otherwise should be ashamed of themselves, that Blair Morgan, his family and all the other beneficiaries should suffer more than they already have.

If you do the math, 500 trucks with 5 place trailers, that's 2500 riders.

I've been attending computer class with 2400 six year olds. After class, for the last 2 weeks, if we're good little boys and girls, we get Happy Meals.
