Is that because you have seen it at it's best and you have such higher expectations?

Lets say your from the flat lands going to the Bighorns for the first time, how would you rate it, from a scale of 1-10

Were coming out the 14th and hoping for some fresh snow to play in.

Was at Bear Lodge from Feb 27th to Mar 3rd.It got warmer each day and got a good base.At the lodge it was getting melted pretty good.Out to the NW by the doppler and SW very good snow.Overall its much better than back home. You wiil get stuck if you want ot go find it.

Wondering how late the season usually goes to in the big horns, were lookin at coming from minnesota in a couple weeks and wondering how it will be.

Will be out there from the 14-17 of march, no concerns about the snow. I have been out there as late as april 15 and had a blast. A $hitty day sledding is WAY better than any other day at work. I have been out several times late in the year and have always gone home happy.

we went up by fiberglass hill the first day and went back in there and found a little powder. Second day we went a few miles further past fiberglass hill and found great powder. The one time 4 out of 5 sleds were stuck if that gives ya any indication. If you look hard you can find it. You could see some snow melting in the few days we were up there and if it stays hot this week it will really put a damper in it. This was my first year out there and compared to the flatlands it was great I would say a 9. I have been going to the black hills a couple times a year since 04 and never seen snow like this. If this is a bad year I would love to see what a good year looks like out there.

Lets keep this updated for us BASIC members!

Now that I can no longer view the official conditions topic. I'd like to know what happens around Bear Lodge from now until the 19th. Hate to drive out for nothing.

This year is a very bad year for snow thats for sure. On the bright side we usually get some pretty good late season storms. Its hard for me to tell the flatlanders that drive a ways how the snow is. Yes if you look for it you can find snow that is deep and will get stuck in. BUT is it worth it to drive 10hrs. To me no. BUT i ride every weekend up here too. The good days are when you unload and go about 15miles from the truck and are out of gas and tired as hell cause you been working your A$$ off in the deep snow.

Well, as long as I can ride from Bear without trailering I will be happy! I've been out there having a cold sasparilla in the P.lot sitting in lawn chairs getting a sunburn before. Actually always found deep snow and had a riot riding the trees. Thins the traffic for sure. We are really just looking for a last blast to cap off a stellar riding year. Thanks for the comments. Keep in touch if you want to ride with a group of 5 including the wife. Not looking for anything super technical or worried about the deep stuff. Bringing a newbie for his 40th birthday to enjoy the riding and after hrs! Crossing fingers for cold/snow.

My group is heading to Bear early Saturday morning. Anyone been up in the last few days? If anybody wants to meet up and ride we'd like to go. This will be our second time out there and it would be great riding with someone that knows the area. Most uf us have short tracks, but can hold our own.

So another flat lander here. I want to come out next weekend would be Friday the 19th. Think there will be any snow left? Going to be honest going to be mostly trail riding. Will be my little brothers first snowmobile trip. I might venture of trail in the trees a bit but just wandering how the trails will be?

The trails North and West of BearLodge are excellent, but you got to look for good playing snow.

Just got back. The snow was decent to the south of the lodges, but right around them it sucked. We had 50 degree weather every day and the trails were going fast. I'm not going to tell anyone not to go, but to expect spring conditions if they do.

We are here right now and it snowed off an on all day today. Talked to a few people at the lodge and in spots up to a foot fresh. Was a very fun day. If you go in the trees it's bottomless powder.

Day in the BHorns

I'm fairly new to the forum here, but have lived at the foot of the Big Horns most of my life. Spring condtions are here, but there is plenty of snow to be had. By this afternoon the group got into a foot or more fresh pow and the base was extreme. Sunk up to our waists trying to get unstuck a few times. If you like to ride then ride what mother nature thorws at ya. Even in a low snow year there is plenty of riding to be had.
