big clunk?

my 03 mxz 800 has a really bad clunk when you go from reverse and then go forward, or the other way around forward then to reverse.

My sled has 4000km about 2500 miles, does anyone know if i should rebuild the clutches? and how much will it costs for parts to do that and how long would it take?
or is it just slack in the drivetrain

Try going to the doo talk site and write in clunk,plenty of good explanations for that noise.It's normal not to worry

sounds like the typical trait of the RER clutch. Its the opposite side of the helix coming into contact with the pads. Going from forward-reverse, reverse-forward changes the side of the helix that the pads (or rollers in the newer sleds) ride on and can make a godaweful clunk if you dont slowly move after changing directions.

It is also amplified by a loose chain...

I tightend the chain up but still makes a nice clunk sound more than my 07 800 does. But i guess i will just forget about it until it gets worse.

It will be worse than the '07 since the '07 is a roller clutch and the clearances are a little tighter.
