Big Bore Turbo??

Anybody doing it? I've heard of people building them and i'm kicking around the idea. I'm running a silber on a 15 freeride 154 now and i've got it for sale until Saturday, after that the motor comes out, might just be an shr build of crank, rods, and forged pistons at stock displacement or possibly go bigger. Looking for suggestions.

running mainly sea level/upper michigan, currently running 7-8 psi on stock motor with av gas

SHR 860

Im running a turbo ported SHR 860 on my T3 with aero. Big gains on the bottom and mid and pulls the same clutching on 7 lbs that the stock bore pulled on 9.5. I went with a sno x cylinder, wossner pistons and stock sleaper head...pulled the stock top end off at o miles and put it on the shelf.

I think its a great turbo motor but i dont have a ton of miles as mother nature is being a &*^ch.

do you think the 880 would be a better set up over the 860 or do you like the 860 for what reasons? i was running around 10 psi before i upgraded the turbo to the external v band setup, now i'm at 7. i like the 860 idea for more 'meat' on the cylinder walls, and i like the idea of more mid and bottom, my goal is 300hp in the end. i've been talking to a good source about adding to the cases to strengthen them for this type of build too

I just felt a little better about the 860 boosted in the end. 300 horse at 1500 ft of elevation you would want to look at opening the head a bit, definately going with billet rods and possibly an intercooler of some sort. Give John a call...he gets giddy about these kind of builds:D

i'm definitely gonna have john involved, especially since i'm only 3 hours from him. i'm laid up from shoulder surgery and now i need another project.

Please follow up with this build. I am a midwest flatlander and am interested in how an 860 Doo on boost does at low elevation. I get up to the U.P. once a year or so to ride. Usually ride northern Wisconsin. Always on very good fuel. I know trail riding is boring to you hill climbers but 140 mph across a lake is okay. 150 would be better. And I don't have to trailer 24 hrs. one way like I used to.

Did one 880 bb so far, but finding fueling is a lot tricker than what I was told... I was very very lean from my stock bore settings and even after fuel controller was maxed my a/f is still in the 14s with lean pops in the midrange

Dobeck sent me another tune now where we increased fuel thirty percent and if we ever get winter back we will test it out... But there's a big difference I seen so far with fueling the bb

The few pulls I did do with it, it was pulling the stock bore clutching that I had at 8 lbs before rod let go, but now at 5 lbs, so it looks promising if I can figure fuel out

I found a wrecked etec awhile ago, and had them send bj the motor for a refresh, rods and bb of his choice for a turbo back up, last I heard we are waiting still on rods

from what i've researched so far is fueling will be an issue with adding the bb to the already turbo'd setup. biggest thing im trying to get is throttle response on the bottom end. i like the kit i have on the stock motor but the lag is so long that by the time it cleans out im either stuck or at the top of the hill without building any power. i've thought about mixing a little 91 with the 100LL to build a little more heat to see if that helps.

the power is definitely there but more is always fun, not really needed for my application, but fun. and i felt the bb would help with the bottom end response.

in the end i wish vi-pec made an ecu set up or there was a supercharger kit.

What kit are you using?

im guessing your not running a aero, cause spool up is one of there best asset to their kit, better than stock most say

I have been on 3 boosted t3s now with different kits (Impulse, BD and Turboboyz) and they all have instant throttle response. Check your controller before thinking about big bore

yeah i'm currently running the silber kit, just listed it for sale actually. I'm still leaning towards the bb turbo but i'm rethinking which route i want to go with which companies. I like the silber kit and don't have anything bad to say about it, i'm just laid up right now and plan on going back to the drawing board. I've talked to many different people with many different bb and turbo companies and i'm getting it narrowed down, just not there yet.

I have a turbo for sale that would be awesome for a bb.

I have my silber self lube external kit still for sale as well. I put the Impulse on and problem solved, it runs flawless. Maybe the person that buys my silber kit will have better luck than i did, i just got sick of the constant run around and spending half of my trips trying to get it to run right.

Purchased a impulse 174 in the last two weeks and had it out for four day trip..

Very very impressed and wish aero had same auto fuelling ecu as impulse..and their spoolis just as quick

There is some real nice kits being offered

Should have bj bb out for this next week if we can get some snow
