Beware 09 XP owners

Someone else had a problem with thier recoil on the forum. Well so did I. Only about seven pulls and NOTHING. Anyone else riding tho 09's see this. It has to be heat related because the dealer called me and asked if it started working again. I said no. They said it works now..........................So they put an 08 recoil on because they are "the same". No problems with the new one yet.

I noticed alot of pipe heat the other day riding mine
I have esart so wasnt using recoil but i was scared things where going to melt in there so I kept stopping and cooling things off. I am going to put vent kit on before I ride again

CraigCo my dad has a 09 as well. I have a can on mine, huge heat diff. between the two. He also has electric start so no problems with the recoil. Well...........because he hasnt pulled the cord at all lol.

So the sled with the stock can is holding more heat or the sled with the aftermarket can??

mine is only still on because I havnt decided what pipe i am going to run yet
Pretty sure I will be getting slp pipe and head

beleve it or not just cover the out side of the recoil cover with foil back tape. reflects the heat. the starter has a plastic shaft in it when it heats up it bonds to the rotating rope cairrier sometimes after they cool they will free up. we first noticed this in 03 when doo went all plastic. cans heat it up quicker. also dont let the handle snap out of your hand after starting that will save starters. have fun riding.

What Fassted said. I've stuck a 4x4" square of reflective tape on all my Doo recoils and never had one go.

Shortstop the sled with the stock can has alot more heat. We rode 10 miles, and felt the tops of both sleds. Mine with the can was cool. My dads with stocker was hot. Huge difference. So you know what his next purchase will be.

par for the course ,doo since time began has not built a very reliable rewind, still waiting for the guy to retire LOL's. plastic rewinds . then sandwich it in between two heat sources .hahahahaha
we stock complete rewinds to keep the people going here .cant fix them adaquetly and expect it not to leave a guy on the mtn.
to bad when the rest of the sled is steller , do give them a gold star for haveing an electric start , but give them a black star for the 15 lb battery hahahaha ,
least ya can throw it in the boat for summer and run the electeric trolling motor .

Recoil

Well i was just about ready to post something on this issue, got back from riding on friday and on sat when i went to put in the shop i pulled on rope and i would not recoil back up had to wiggle it back in. The rope now goes back in but you still have to wiggle a bit. Do you guys think that it is no good now or can you take off and just lube the recoil up a bit.

cant remember how many recoils i lost on my first doo. 01 summit 800. Had good luck though with may xp last year though, about 2500 combined miles on 3 sleds and not one recoil failure. doo do something different this year?

Never had any problems with my 08 with stock can or "thing" 400miles on each. No reflective tape although that stuff is incredible.
