I recently found the mag side piston to be scorred on the skirt. Going to remove cylinder and inspect. Anybody have a good way to get the coolant out of the water jackets of the cylinder so it doesnt leak into the crankcase when its removed? Thanks.

You just have to have coolant level LOWER then the bottom of the Cylinder..

You could always take off a hose and let drain..

Thanks guys. I need to fine some small tubing that will fit down the coolant jackets.

I just pulled the right side front running board hose loose and drained the coolant into a pan...keeps it all in one place if you don't have a vac.

i use my shop vac...pull line off side running board, suck coolant from there, suck from coolant bottle, pull hose off head and suck the hose, then pull thermostat and suck from head...works great, and never get coolant drips inside ;)

Great tips guys!, but if the intention is to further inspect, look closer with die light through y-pipe, exhaust ports and spark plug holes, that will tell you everything you need to know for all practical purposes- and save a ton of work. If you were to do anything about it, you'd be best served rebuilding both sides anyway. Good luck.

duct tape some fuel line to your shop vac hose...works great for get the pockets of coolant out for a no mess service..suck it all right out of the bottle..super easy then as you pull the head you can work out the pockets without a mess. Tip: Never take a phone call while reinstalling the head and thus forgetting to actually torque it all down prior to refilling your coolant. It kind of defeats the purpose of making a nice clean service....

X2 that's the way to go, works every time.
