Best way to mount spare tires?

We have a 22' Alumna trailer with two spare tires. What is the best way to mount the tires under the trailer? Anyone have any pictures of where they mounted their spares?

I've seen them mounted on the front drive on/off shields, but not underneath.

I found the best way is also the most expensive way. I searched and thought long and hard about this one. In the end I figured for the quality and ease of use it was worth it. Pitpal products, acme thread spare tire mount.

Thanks for the link. I do think it is slick but that is very overpriced IMO.

It is very well built and heavy duty and bigger than it looks. I had to think long and hard about it because of the price. But like I said I feel it is the best solution because I hold the rim on center nice and tight without damaging the rim. I can be removed and installed in literally seconds. I had the thought of having to remove lug nuts to get your tire down.

I saw a 2 place open trailer at Puyallup yesterday that had a drop down winch like on the back of my pickup to hold the spare tire up to the bottom of the deck. The turn tube was about flush with the side of the trailer. Looked like a decent option especially on open trailers where there are few places to hang a tire.

I can tell ya do not mount underneath. The wheel rusts, tire rots and usually a pain in the butt when you need them and frozen/ full of road slush.
I carry mine in the back of the pick-up, I have a cap.

Good advice. I was thinking the same thing.

I wondered about that. This one was in front of the road tire so I'm sure it got plenty of residual spray of anti-icing agent (aka. rust promoter) and road grime.

My spare storage

Here is a picture of mine,(this is in the V nose) however we don't take this trailer over the road it is just static storage. This is a ladder hanger I'm using.

If I were to make it for over the road I'd cut a wooden cone piece to fit the hub i.d. and change the hook to a straight rod with a hole drilled through it.
Slide the tire on, slide the cone on and drop a pin, bolt or what ever through the drilled hole.
