I've got some cracks that keep growing bigger on the side of my cowling. What would be the best way to go about fixing them? Should I just rivet some plastic on there or what?
I threw a bunch of plastic epoxy (<$6 at the local hardware store) on the inside of a 7" crack on mine.... right along an edge, so hopefully it should hold well. We'll see though.
If that doesn't work, i'll probably try a chemical or heat approach...
Epoxy won't form a strong bond on hood material. Get some of this stuff http://www.lord.com/Home/ProductsSe...ucts/PlasticAdhesives/tabid/3401/Default.aspx
...at a body shop supply store. PWC repairs are done with the same stuff that most car bumper covers are fixed with, and sled hoods are pretty similar......SMC (sheet moulding compound). It has the mould release agent mixed in with the sheets...this is why regular epoxy won't stick well, and you have to use the right glue.
Also make sure you drill a small hole at the end of each crack, and back your repair up with some matting on the back side.
