Best used mountain sled for around $4000

Hey guys I need your help...........A buddy of mine wants to get into snowmobiling. He wants a mountain sled.
All I can recommend is Cat since that is all I have ever owned and still own.
Give me some good ideas for used mountain sleds for around $4000 other than a M7 or M8.

There are several choices in that price range. If reverse is not important then 06 M7 EFI. If he would prefer a machine with reverse 04-06 summit, but the front end is noted to not be as durable as others. That would be my only concern with him being new to sledding. Beginners tend to run into things. 04 & 05 RMK's are nice sleds too, but are more of the older less agressive rider style. Both the M7 and summit have some form of fuel compensation. The rmk still needs jets changed for altitude but is the only one with a knock sensor in case you get some bad fuel.

Just depends on what you are looking for.

the OP said other than M7/M8. you could try to find a rev, if you get a 600 they are really reliable. You could also look for a Mtn cat or King cat but i dont think they are very good at all for new riders. Im not understanding the desire to not have a M series sled, they are sweet riding and pretty reliable too

I would go with a summit. Great machine. I have a 05 800 with 144'' track and it does everything I want it to out west. If you are more of a hillclimber, i'd go with a 151. The Doo has awesome power and has reverse (great for helping get unstuck). I got this 3 years ago after i totaled my cat out for $4,000. It was a steal. It was pretty easy getting used to different chassis. I have 3,000 miles on mine and no major things wrong with it yet (besides bent bulkhead after I ran into a culvert oops). Great machine you won't be disappointed.

Real? Becasue i have never seen sombody get unstuck using reverse, infact usualy it just digs you in deeper...and yet i see it every day.

Anyways, i would pick up an 07 600 or 700 POLARIS.

everyone in our group started sledding in the past 3 years with the same budget. 5 got RMK edges with 2 on doo's. Can't say eough good things for the edge, easy to work on, has reverse knock sensor, ignition with reg/prem fuel setting (advance/retard timing).

Honestly, every sled is a POS at some point. Some just take longer to get to said point. One bit of advice that has worked well for me, don't buy a sled from someone under the age of 40. Trust me ;)

Yeah. I learned this the hard way. Reverse just makes things worse. :o
