Best Tires for Heavy Duty Trucks

I go for quite and smooth with decent life, a tire that slaps the pavement with its lugs and cups all over the place is wasted $$$ for me when I have to hit the hwy to get everywhere,,,, Nitto Terra Grapplers. They seem to stick a bit better on slick roads than the BFG AT's I used to run as well. Dont notice any difference in the dirt/muck though but I also dont run an 8000 lbs vehicle through too much crap other than snow in sled season. Get around 65-70 miles out of them.
 
I go with the BFG's rotate them every 15K and they last decent. not as long as the TOYO but the $ difference is not worth it. I find it better to buy a cheaper tire and start every winter with a new set works better than trying to stretch a high dollar tire two winters.
 
i'm going to try the nitto dura grapplers for my next set. haven't got a straight answer from the tire dealers how they will perform in the snow and ice, but they look good.
 
I got 50K out of a set of BFG AT TA/KO's on my duramax. I rotated them every 10K miles. Looks like I am the minority, but they worked well for me??

Same here. I got close to 40,000 miles out of my last set and they had a lots of miles of gravel on them. Rotated at least every 7500 miles.
 
best luck i have had on my 1 ton thats overloaded everyday is,
goodyear workhorse severe service, long life, real hard rubber
or
toyo m55 and yokohama ats, decent life
 
I like the Camoplast M/T's I rode my truck all the way to the cabin in December through 8ft of Pow with them.. ;) lol, My vote is for the dick cepeks..
 
i just put a set of pro-comp xtreme m/t , they are great looking tire but don't know the wear factor yet.
 
I would suggest the Cooper Discoverer ATR's Have them on my 05 PSD and they last a long time and are very quiet and look/feel aggressive.

Have a set on my DMAX and I really like them.

I had them siped when I put them on, jury is still out on whether or not I will do that on the next set.

BFG TA KO's did not last for me - I liked the way they looked- but that was about it, I rotated them every 5-7k miles, and they still wore out quickly.

Just for interest's sake, where did you buy your BFG's from? I'm wondering if there aren't some aged sets floating around that wear quicker due to aging on the shelf?
 
I'm on my 2nd set of Kuhmo MT's. 41,000 miles on the first set. They are 37x13.5x20s under my 6 inch lifted MegaCab. Believe me, I'm not easy on tires! My standby set on stock rims are Goodyear MTR's. They are also great tires, though louder than the Kuhmo's.

I had the ATR's on my Dodge dually, took them off in the first 2k. Worst tire i have even ran. BFG's don't seem to last either and that was on my XJ. I heard the cooper st's work good, louder but last long.

These new Dura Grapplers sound like the ticket. noob, if you get a set, let us know how they work out!

Wow it sounds like I'm a tire rotating fool. Cause I do mine every 3 to 4 thousand miles. But I do like the miles I get out of all my tires
 
Dayton Timberlines are the only tires the rancher will run around here. Always towing a trailer of some sort.
We have bentionite on every road the slickest mud ever out here and they work. Better then coopers or toyos.

This is the same tire I'm currently running on my Max. So far it has been a great tire. Bought a set of Toyo's for my Mega cab I had last year and only got 28 thousand miles out ot them. The compound just seems way to soft and with the torque of the diesel, they seem to wear fast from my experience. I'll be putting my stock rims with my Bridgstone's back on for winter. The 33's I have on now, isn't the best for traction on the slick stuff, but they seem to be a good tire and hold up very well. Good luck.....

I got them from Sam's Club here in Denver, I thought they looked new? But who knows.....

I saw a clip on TV one night on the news where they were talking about shelf life of tires and they went to a few retailers to check them. Apparently you can do it by the code on each tire (I have no clue how) and figure out the date of manufacture.
