Best Tires for Heavy Duty Trucks

Any of you running the Toyo's have any dry cracking issues? Are they still somewhat soft in the ice/snow when you poke your finger nail into the tread? What other tires have you driven on that you can compare the Open Country's to?

Right now I'm debating between the Toyo Open Country A/T's and Bridgestone Revo Duellers (since I have had good luck with them in the past traction wise not so much mileage wise). E range load.

The cost of the toyo's is not worth it! I went with the Mastercrafts ( same as Coopers but cheaper) that were half the cost of the Toyo's literally. I got 30K out of them pulling atleast 50% of the time. The average I see for the Toyo's is 40K. So you can spend the same amount and get 60K instead of 40K. the sidewalls are a bit soft so the truck didnt quite handle as well.

My Dad is running the Michelin LTX A/T2's on his 6leaker and I am super impressed with them so far. Pending his results long term, they may find thier way on mine.

I run Michelin LTX M/S as 90% of my driving is on dry roads. Longest lasting that I have used. Had Goodyears - lasted 25K. Michelins go about 50k. If it gets too sloppy (Michelins work better on paved and packed), I just chain up. Getting an 8000 lb truck with sleds out of a ditch sucks.

They wear kinda fast (not horrible, but not like they're a high mileage tire either), but are AWESOME in the snow/mud, IMHO...

x2 - i've loved these tires, they look a lot like the Toyo's - but are less expensive and last as long or longer. Running 35x12.50x18s on my Dmax and my buds. Great snow tire - i've 25k miles on mine and they still have more than 50% on them. I'll get 50k i bet out of them. That's with a lot of fast accelarating and at least 425hp to the wheels. he he :D

If you want tire that last and are tough as they come go look at Pro Comp tires. Will not run nothing but on my 2500 !

2nd that!
Had about 40k mi on a set of Pro Comp A/T's on my DMax, mostly empty driving and they had 50% tread left (when I sold the truck). Real good snow tires too.
Had a set of Pro COmp Mud Terrains on a Dodge and got over 35k mi out of them, would have got more, but I didn't keep up with rotating them very well.

I would go with the goodyear silent armor. I had a set of these and they lasted 55,000+ miles, and still had some tread left, I thought that was pretty good for 305 70 16's on a 3/4 ton diesel. I live in the coutry so I drive gravel, and quite a bit of highway, I also pull a car trailer 1-3 times a week if not more. I now have another set on my pickup with 9000 miles on and they have very little wear on them. Hope this helps!!!

I have studded Coopers mounted up on a set of stock rims. They are the best driving tires I have ever put on my Powerstroke F350. They can handle the load and grab really well.

I also really like the Mastercraft. I run the Ct's in a 285 on my Duramax and get good wear on them inspite of towing and running on gravel all the time.

I have a 06 mega cab diesel. The first set of tires were the pro comp A/T s and I got 35,000 miles out of them. Last oct I bought Toyo M/T's and I already have 37,000 miles on them, they would easily last me another summer but I think I'm going to buy new ones for winter and put these back on in the spring to get the full wear out of them. I would say about 50% of the mileage is also pulling my 19 ft Ranger and the work trailer (16ft loaded with cabinets). I run 35x12.5x20. I was thinking about trying the Dick Cepek mud country tires. I would buy the Toyo M/T's again but not the pro comps. Anybody ever try the Dick Cepek tires?

I'm going into 2nd winter with these on work truck:

Very impressed so far. Truck weighs in at 9k all the time and they are wearing very well with 55000km to this point. I have over half a million km's in various diesel pickups with various tires over the last ten years and these are right up there.

Rotation at least every 20kkm is key to long life.

I will have to agree that procomps are tough tires. With towing the gooseneck and thrashing them in the mud, clay and rocks I've gotten 40k outta my xterrians. And rode nice and amazingly their actually quite in the cab.

Toyo mts wear awesome too.can't knock them.

Also have a set of sxt mt on one of my trucks and they are holding up great. Did awesome in the snow too.

But I also only buy tires in 10 or 12 ply usually load range E. Which could be over kill for you if your not towing tons or loading the crap outta your truck. But the heavier tire the less problems you'll experience

can't beat the uniroyal liberator from walmart.$145 for 265 75 r 16. very good in snow and ice lot of syping. i had firestone steelteks that lasted 94,000 miles on 3/4 crew chevy. the firestones would of went well over 1000,000 but i wanted good tires for winter.

I siped my TOYO MT's by hand, we'll see how they like the winter now...... when we get snow( see pic). My buddy has 40k mi. on a set (not siped) working on the rigs and he likes them.

Some guys are having trouble with the Procomps. See pic below.

My brother runs the Dick Cepek FC2 on his dodge he's WOT all the time with 400+rwhp and they're wearing like iron.

I got 50K out of a set of BFG AT TA/KO's on my duramax. I rotated them every 10K miles. Looks like I am the minority, but they worked well for me??

I run the toyo m-55. Love them.. They wear better and last longer than the toyo open county mt. I go everywear my friend does with his toyo mt.

Dick Cepek mountaincat or Bighorn. Both good.

:DI have a set of Dick Cepek mountaincat. Studded and siped. Love them. 35x12.50-16 Work great and chains are cheap for them.
But I heard the bighorn was good too!
