Me and some guys were looking to make a trip to the bighorns this year which would be a first for all of us. We were considering bear lodge or staying in sheridian, any other suggestions? Also, on an average year when is the best time to ride out there. We're from eastern SD, we usually ride Cooke City or West Yellowstone but just looking for something a little closer.

Late January early February is normally good for snow. Looks like we are getting a better start this year then in the past few. Stay on the mountain if you can. Sheridan is 50 miles from Burgess Junction(Bear Lodge). Check out the Big Horns threads in the Wyoming section.

There are lotsa choices on the mountain.....The passage resort and Snowshoe lodge are two others besides the bear lodge.....the best times to ride are right after the big spring dump...if you can tell me when exactly that would be I would appreciate it....but you can also check out the websites the bear and the passage post snowfalls as we get them.....

Sorry revrider I was not trying to advertise Bear in my post, just giving a reference. Lots of great accomidations were you can walk outside in the morning and through your leg over the sled with out the long truck ride. I only drive to Sheridan cause that is were home is...

No problem...I have heard plenty of rumours about who is open and who is closed so I was just throwing out the options.....
