best sled for the money, used or new

i have thought about every single one of those sleds. but my girlfriend has me convinced to wait till next year and buy a brand spanking new 09 sled. sound like a good deal or no?

YIKES !!!! you're letting a woman dictate your snowmobiling? That's got train wreck written all over it. You tell her what you are going to do and if she isn't cool with it dump her. Once you give up that ounce of control, they figure you gave it all and are now under their control. Sledding is MY activity and she can gripe all she wants but its my deal and I won't let her have any input for fear she will try and take over. The garage is my domain too.

Oh yeah, as far as a good sled... I'm really pleased with my 01 800 RMK 151". If you can find a low miler, they are less than $3k. parts are cheap, chassis is good and engine is better than average. Easy to mod and tune. Was Sled of the Year in 01. best of luck.

KING CAT !!! Ride it stock or put a high rise seat and a forward steering post. You will love it. I still ride mine had it since 04. I have riden the new cat chassis and like the old one better. I see then for sale between 4500 and 6500.
Oh with all the torque that cat 900 puts down get a 162 king or a 159 if you find a mountian cat. But dont but older than 03 1/2 cause before that they dont have the drop and roll chain case.

P.S. If I continue to ride this winter like I have been there is a good change I wont have a wife by spring!!

03 rmk was/is a good sled. Any year rev was/is a good sled. As far as the new sleds, HARD to beat the xp, if you factor lbs and hp per dollar spent.

It's a trick! Don't fall for it!
Next year you could be "saving for the wedding" or "having a baby" or some bull$hit like that.

You tell her how it's gonna be & if she doesn't shut her mouth, there may be an '09 coming in addition to this one!
Then ask her why there is no supper on the table yet?

ROTFLMAO truer words were never spoken!!!!!! great!!!:beer;:D

I've been really happy with the M7's I picked up the last couple years. But, for me, the EFI was the priority, and in my price range, they seemed to have the best system going. Sure, I'm still working on some of the quirks, (susp., clutching) but thats personal taste.

edge chassis nothing like iq", don't go backwards
07 poo's 700 - excellent
05-07 doo's - good , check front end if used
05-06 cats - no reverse , power? 07 - alot better
yamaha ?
whats the best local dealer , that's what sells me

Another vote on the king cat. I picked mine up brand new cheap as he!! They are the dinosaur chassis nowadays but take mods real well. Strong motor, lots of torque. This 900 is unstoppable and in 04-06 she truely was the king of the mountain. Then the bugs got worked out of the M chassis and they dropped the 1M. If you are looking for a stock sled that you want to mod a bit down the road....King cat.. my .02

Really depends on how much you want to spend. If you want a cheap bullet proof motor / chassis then King Cat / 1M in my opinion. But I'm starting to see some good buys on used M7's. Alot depends on your riding style, size of the rider and of course brand preference!

The problem with the cats is the comet clutch.

My buddy had several cats & he would carry spare clutches like the rest of us carry belts! (not on the sled of course, but always had 1 or 2 in the truck)

He finally got tired of the ugly end of a rope & switched brands.

Cats are pretty much bulletproof from 03 up, the only clutch problems is their second rollers, but an easy cheap yearly maintenance item.

The best used sleds today are the firesale sleds. Pol 900 RMK: Buy them all day for $4500, throw the known fixes at it and your rocking for $5500.
This year the firesales will be the Xrs, and next season the XP by the way things are panning out.

The best sleds for the buck in this order... (new gives NO bang for the buck, just surf the swapmeet.)

1. 2005-06 900RMK

2. Vertical Escape series Polaris (03-04)

3. King Cat

4. M7

Bar none, buying an used 900RMK is the way to go. You can get one that is completely set up to rip trouble free, and still outpower the new 800 Dragon. Depending on how modded the 900 is, $5K-6,500 is the going rate it seems for winter prices.

As far as vibration...what vibration? Seriously.... Sure, my 900RMK vibrates fairly good at about 3,000RPM, wow...I think I better sell the thing.... Now how much time do you hold your sled at 3K? Hmmm??? At 5,000-7500rpm she's as smooth as glass, as far as a huge twin guggling a pair of coffee cans goes anyway. I've got an Arctic Cat 900, it has the EXACT same characteristics, they are just big motors.

Second issue.... For those of you riding 900RMK's, you need to reword something. Unless you are riding with Turbo'd sleds, an RT1000, M1000, or a bunch of big CC mod sleds, you aren't "keeping up just fine".... ANYTHING in the 900cc and down is going to have to give it all to run with the 900RMK set up well.
