Heading to the Fraser/Winter park area from Michigan this weekend with a 40' gooseneck. Which would be the better route, I-70 out of Denver to US-40 (says 19.5 hours) or over to Laramie and south through Walden and Granby (says 21 hours)?

Yup 70, hopefully ski traffic isn't too bad yet.

I went through last weekend, Mtn part of 70 was a breeze, Denver metro was pretty bogged down.

agree with 70, decent storm coming in so I'd watch the weather also for the weekend.

the i70 recommendation would probably switch to laramie after christmas...for weekend travel or prime skier traffic times. hit i70 after 630am on weekend until about 10am and good luck.

If considering Laramie, get wind forecasts for I-80 east of Laramie, and weather for 230 over the Medicine Bow, before you commit. Been abit breezy lately.

20 hr drive...Denver traffic...Berthoud pass with a 40' trailer with potential snow in the forecast...

I don't know why you guys insist on driving across the country to come to the busiest ski/sledding/outdoor mess in the country.

Well, in our case, there is a National Snocross race there the 16-17th that we are competing in. We're coming out early in order to get some practice time in at elevation in order to get the sleds dialed in and our bodies used to the the altitude.

I'd personally avoid the Laramie route. That's a narrow road that can get real nasty.

I hate I-70 ski/truck traffic with a passion, but i'll never go anywhere near I-80 during a storm again!

70 you might take 7hrs to 40miles or even have to spend the night. On I-80 around Laramie and Cheyenne you'll be lucky not to get crushed by some psycho truck going way way too fast for conditions.
