Best Riding Area

We would like to come to Colorado next year to ride. Anyone have recommendations for riding areas? Thanks.

That's an open ended question. What is your flavor of riding? Hardcore boondocking, family trail riding, a mix of stuff for intermediate and beginner? Are you on flat land sleds or do you have capable mountain sleds? Do you need to be close to a lodge or do you already have accommodations? Do you know what time of year you are coming? Don't forget avalanche beacons, probes and shovels for all.

GM, RE, BP, FT's, WC, GL, WP-C, SC, VP, VR.

.........oops, I did it again! :D

I'd hold off making plans until you see if and where it's going to snow. This year, January and February were terrible, March and April have been great. And high hopes for May...........

I'd watch the weather around the Steamboat/Hahns Peak area. Typically it gets a lot of snow and there are a lot of square miles of snowmobiling nearby.

Thanks for the replies. We are flatlanders lol from upstate NY. We get quite a lot of snow but dont have the terrain you guys have. We definitely got our feet wet in Cooke City this year. We really like the boondocking/climbing. We rented the sleds the last two years(m8/800 pro rmk) Stayed at Togwotee last year and Super 8 in Cooke this year.

The main areas are Flat Tops (out of Glenwood, Dotsero, Rifle), Rabbit Ears (out of Kremmling), Wolf Creek (Pagosa Springs), Vail Pass (Vail or Dillon/Silverthorne), Grand Lake and Grand Mesa (Junction). The Mesa and Grand Lake are great for tours, lodges and groomed trails with a ton of off road riding areas. All of these areas are great.

Grand Mesa and Grand Lake are a long ways from each other. I'd recommend Steamboat area around Buff Pass and Rabbit Ears. My back yard of Grand Mesa is my biased favorite, The San Juans down south are fantastic but not for beginners. As was said before, avy equipment and training are a must everywhere you go here.
