Best riding area in the bighorns

Heading to the Bighorns in the middle of march, staying at Elk View Inn. This is my 3rd year in a row now going there and was just wondering where the better areas are? It seems pretty tame around the lodge itself so i was thinking someone would have some advice on where to ride or trailer and ride... Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

I prefer to go north or west from burgess junction. Have ridden south before, which would be east of antelope butte and have had fun there too. Just depends on the snow sometimes. The farther you get from the lodge/trail the better stuff you will find

^thanks^ Anyone ever go to or around Cloud Peak? looking at a map it appears to be the highest area in the Bighorns, 13000 ft. Looking for cliffs, chutes, things like that which i just have not really found in this area yet. Thanks.

Two comments on the Cloud Peak area. First, much of it is wilderness so no riding. Second, it's a long, i.e. about 50 mile ride from the Burgess area with NO fuel or other accomodations. If you wanted to ride that general area, it would be better to get to it from the Buffalo/Meadowlark Lodge side. Just my .02.

Look into Wyoming High Country/Devil's Canyon area. I am thinking, maybe 20 miles away from Burgess JCT. I miss the food at The Bear Lodge. Excellent!

There is lots of good riding up there, but if you are looking for really extreme riding that probably isn't the place. There is tons of fun places to play, but if you are looking for really steep and risk your life climbing spent a few more hours in the truck and go to Cooke.

Yeah lol look up a map of the cloud peak wilderness. Can't get much above maybe like 10,500 ( pretty sure ) feet without getting into it on the northern end

The wilderness really took a lot of riding on the Big Horns. Grew up riding up there. My favorite ride was Granite pass to the old mail trail, Willet basin, over burn down to Hamilton gold mine. From there we would ride over the top to Arden. Back over crooked creek hill, across snowshoe pass and across antelope butte, down the slot.
Sorry to hijack your thread. My dad and almost all of his friends that I used to make that ride with are gone now. Thanks for letting an old man ramble.
