Best QD Belt skid-plate?

Are you guys with the 13's and 14's with the QD running belt skid plates? I see that Skinz and a couple other companies offer them and my question is which do you feel is the best and overall how necessary are they? Its my first year with a QD so its all new to me.

Yes I did a search on this but SW search function is garbage.

I'll start this off with a disclaimer that I really dislike Skins stuff; that said, their plastic (HDPE? UHMW?) QD skid plate would be what I would buy or make myself. Clean design, nothing for snow to collect / freeze to. It will take a good hit defect a little if needed and still protect your drive.

After looking at a bunch of different ones I ended up with the Skinz for some of the same reasons as mentioned above.

we have one we make at fastrax, ours holds the plastic down since there is nothing holding the fender from hitting the belt. here it is on our website. it will work if you have electric start also.

I went with the VE skid plate and I have no problems with it. It's taken a lot of good hits and snow really doesn't stick to it.

Not sure which brand I have but it is raw aluminum formed and welded. It rivets into 2 stock rivet holes. You have to drill 2 more.it rigidly mounts on 3 sides and into the plastic on one.It looks stout and very hard to bend.May snag a few pine bows but I siliconed the leading edge.

Exactly what I'm saying ! If it's vulnerable to impacts wouldn't it make sense that the factory would install some sort of protection from " incidental " contact ? I can think of a lot of other places on my sled to drop $100 plus dollars. Already have a skid plate to help out with frontal damage control, but that far back, behind an A arm? Is it a must have ?

I went with the skinz also. Pretty cheap insurance at $45. Sled solutions just got them back in stock I think.

Hey someone beat me to the punch on this subject! I been looking at them myself and been asking around. WPS has plastic and aluminum and asked about both. Been told that the plastic one would be best when impacted it will flex back to partly normal condition when aluminum will just be dented for life and also attract snow/ice.

I ran this one last year. It was built by a UTV accessory company as I recall. Can't seem to find it anymore. Pretty similar to the VE models. No problems with any build up of excess snow. I never took a hard hit to really put it to the test. Does anyone have a link for the skinz model can't find it on there site. I would like to see what they have.

Out of curiosity, did anyone ever experience any failures by not running some form of protection plate (off the sled lift in the shop)? There are about ten different '13 pro's I rode with throughout the season. Pretty much all of them had a protection plate of some sort and no one had an issue. I figure these things either work really well or are another one of those preseason items we blow $$ on anxiously awaiting our new sleds and the snow to follow.
