best place!!!

Here's two for you: Steamboat Springs and Crested Butte, both ski towns with excellent riding a few miles down the road.

you didn't need to be able to afford living there did you? if not, both are good choices!

cb is a badass town, great vibe & even better riding. Boat sucks (I live there during the week) it's a mini denver with a ski hill, but there are some cool towns nearby & some great riding if maybe a bit flat compared to other areas. Granby is a reasonable town to live in, is near WP & lots of riding areas that don't see the crowds that you see at RE or vail, and doesn't have the snobbery that boat does.

of course if you want the ULTIMATE riding town, Empire is where it's at!!!! :)

If you want to ride from your house and into the huge snow areas you gotta have big bucks or live in a 12X12 home (storage shed and no permit needed). lol

I would agree that you should avoid the ski towns. In my opinion, everything skiing touches turns to shi*. Telluride and Crested Butte are prime examples of this. If I was to leave Denver, I might try Glenwood Springs, Kremmling, Durango or maybe Silverton. I have a vacant lot in Silverton for sale in case you are interested.
