Thread Rating
5.00 star(s)
if your looking to replace your rear cooler call mike at vanamberg just about as cheap and a beter cooler than the stock 09. Mikes cooler will also bolt/rivet right in with no pluming required Rodger
I have mailed to Van Amburg about 2 mounth ago but dont get any answer.

How will the Flatten cooler fit? And how does it work vs stock?

Both those last two look pretty good. JasonAK, that is one of the better ones Ive seen using the stock flap.

Just finished this 07 M1000 BDX conversion W/ 09 flap and light / I stepped it up a bit .. it's catching on

Man, I want a windshield like that. Does anyone know where I can find one?

Im looking to do this mod to my 06 crossfire, just wondering if I should flatten my 06 cooler or buy the 09' cooler? The 06 coolers are very long compared to the 09'. Would I have overheating problems going to the 09' cooler? thanks

for now im sticking with the 06 cooler--but i moved it forward about 3 inches.

im not even half done making my setup....

brake light is from my chevy blazer with a second circuit of led's added for running lights, I'm going with a zero taper setup using an internal doubler to stiffen things up. Also i'm fabbing a new upper section of the tunnel because after shortening it the stock rack **** wont work well.

Finally Done

Doesn't look too much different than what most others have done with a couple of exceptions. After all the talk about strength of the bumper both vertically and horizontally (tunnel cracking, tunnel bow) and the crappy appearance of the BDX braces (sorry Mike but you gotta admit...). What I have done is to cut off the approx 1.25" tab on the back of the tunnel to make it flush (see photo) and taken the '09 tunnel "end cap" ($10) and cut out the bottom tabs on the sides, flush mounted it underneath the rear of the tunnel...inside the BDX bumper AND inside the tunnel sides. Rivets across the top...rivets on the side...and the cut I made in the end cap rests perfectly on top of the lip inside the BDX bumper. This is now the strongest part of my tunnel in every direction. The real beauty of it is that the '09 bumper and LED rest right on it perfectly and cover up all your new rivets.

You have to drill 2 large holes in the tunnel for the lock tabs on the '09 bumper, you can see them in the picture. I also have pictures of the flattened '08 cooler (with a sledge) and the method used for mounting it. One thing you cannot see in the pictures is the window and door insulation tape that was cut down to about 1/4" thick to snug the cooler up and keep it from rattling or moving at all. This method also eliminates the rubbing of the BDX bumper on the cooler pipes.

One more

Had to get the last couple pics in there for the guys who are doing t his at home.

When buying the flap & LED, don't forget to get the 2 screws that mount the LED to the flap. They are only .22 each but alot more in gas to make another trip to the cat dealer if you forget them. Also, the black rivets that mount the flap to the end cap are quite handy. Good Luck

Looks good toodeeptodd. So, are you guys just cutting your stock tunnel extension to get the added tapper?

Also, with the BDX bumper kit, are you just getting the actual grab handle for that price? And then you also have to buy the supports?

Still waiting for someone to do multiple WFO Snowbunje jerks on one of these new fangled bumpers before I spend the $.

Glad people are finding solutions to the ugly reinforcing brackets. :)

I'm putting the 09 bumper including tunnel section and cooler on my 05. I have the major parts ordered and have recieved some just waiting on the rest to come off backorder. What I'm wondering is if anyone give me an idea of what i need for hardware as far as rivets and such go.

My 09 cat bumper came with the rivets. Im guessing that all your cat parts will come with rivets (if needed).

I vote for the BDX bumper... :)

I see there are some comments about the tunnel cracking, we addressed that almost immediately, it was strange however there were some tunnels that cracked and some that didn't. There are so many variables as well on how people want to finish the tunnel..

You can definitly tow with our bumpers (personal experience) but I have not used or have not had any reports of bungee's being used??

Mike
BDX

I bought one of these bumpers for my sled. They look good thats for sure. I havnt had any trouble of my tunnel cracking...where has it been cracking for others?

Where are you guys getting the taillights at?

Which ones? Mine is the stock 09 modified to fit this kit. Available from your dealer or some dealers in this forum. End cap $10, flap $42, LED $42, rivets $5. Under 100 for the whole setup and it strengthens the BDX kit drastically on the rear of the tunnel and looks KILLER to boot

The tunnels were cracking at the very back in the corners from the pressure of the bumper (presumably during towing) and from the unflattened 08 cooler bouncing up and down since it is not properly supported. Definately flatten the cooler to overcome this "possible" problem. I know Mountain Doo had an issue and posted pics of his cracked tunnel a while back. I think he and Mike got it fixed up though.

These are some pics of my own bumper that i built. Used a VE flat rear cooler and about $30 worth of materials. Have a led light that will be installed also. Waiting for the AC tunnel braces.

Yes MikE AND I got it together...... He assisted me with the Issue with the cracking as I was one of the 1st to purchase his conversion..
He is truly a man of his word and for sure not the BDX of years past.

And Kyle you have to ASK for the rivets.. they don't come with the flap.. I found that out the hard way.. 3/16" large head black....
