Best GPS unit to buy

I need some advice from those of you that have been using GPS units for riding, hunting, etc. What is the best unit for this type of use? What are the features I should look for in a unit for outdoor recreational use?

Go with a Garmin.

Also, do a search on here; there's dozens of threads with the same information you're looking for

I prefer Magellan, but the main thing is to use one with a good antenna (for when you are in trees), good maps for your areas, easy to see in bright sun (ask to take it outside if possible when shopping), and make sure you practice with it and know how to use it before you are in an emergency situation.

Garmin 60csx

For everything I do this is the best one yet. The Garmin 60csx.

I just got back from hunting and in some deep draws, thick cover, clouds etc and never lost signal one time. Very good reciever.

I also like the fact that I can have a street maps memory card and switch over to my topos on the road without having a computer to download new programs.

Anyway good luck.

Hard to beat magellan, but garmin have made improvements (finally) in the last couple of years. The Oregon 400t or the Magellan triton 2000 would be the one you are looking for ( If you are in the USA). I am sure there are demos of them on the websites.
