Best gearing? 2006 SummitX 151

I have a 2006 Summit X 151 stock. Hps can the a lefty throtle the only mods. I live in North Utah and ride staight mountains, steep and deep 7000 plus In Utah Idaho and Wyoming. Does anyone know what gearing this came with stock? And how far to gear it down? Thanks

I'm fairly sure that the 06 800 151 Summit X came with a 21/45 gearing but you could search at many dealer sites (or BRP) and answer that for sure from their parts fiche. Seems a lot of folks posting here and on Dootalk run 19/45 for straight on mountain riding, much better for trees/boon docking if you are not concerned with top end speed. If you have to go lower than 19/45 then I think you need to replace the chain too.

I havn't mucked around with my gearing yet as I'm still piecing together my rebuild project, I've got a 20/45 in there now and plan on running that and adjusting up or down one on the top gear if needed.

Best of luck!

Most people are suggesting 19/45 as previously stated. It runs well for the mountains but safely tops out at about 80 mph. Any smaller on the top gear and it is suggested that it would prematurely break the chain because of it's small diameter. To my knowledge it is not stock at that gear ratio.

06 Summits came stock with a 19/45...About the only thing really may want to do is get a clutch kit from someone...Other than that, pull the rope and go!

The 06 151 summit x's came with 21/45 gearing. Im running 20/46 in mine right now and it works great in the trees and hillclimbing but top speed is around 86 mph.:)

different track sizes, what model it is (X or not) will have different gears in them
sometimes, it will be different right from the dealer depending where it was purchased

easiest way to tell what you have....pull the chaincase cover off

i have an 06 X 151 that was purchased in Alberta - 21/45 gearing

i changed it out to a 20/45 but went w a 15w set up
20th 15w top gear w 440 spacer
45th 13w btm gear
all wrapped up in a 74 link 15w chain

the 06's were known to blow chains

it is cheaper to replace the top gear, but any more than a 1 tooth drop and i would be changing out the bottom gear instead
19/45 puts too much of a strain on your chain and creates steep angles or turns

i personally like keeping the ratio around 2.24, hense why the 20/45 set up
