best beacon??

Here is a GREAT link

http://www.beaconreviews.com/transceivers/

I personally own a pieps dsp and a bca tracker DTS. They are both great beacons, If someone was looking for me I would prefer them to have the pieps dsp. I have practiced many times with both beacons and I believe that the pieps is easier and faster then the bca. When I take pepole riding that are not familier with beacons, I let them wear the pieps and I wear the BCA. (after I make them try it first). The most important thing is that you practice with the one you have, and know how to use it !!!!

Whats best
Avy Beacon?

Best? Probably the Ortovox S1 according to the beacon review website posted above by Rixster. Also in my recent avy class the instructor indicated it was the top of the line unit.

But like Rixster, I recently ordered the Pieps DSP from SnowBigDeal.com because of the ease of use and the fact that it have 3 Antennas. These things are sweet.

With very limited practice I can find mutiple buried victims (buried beacons) in a relatively short time. Once the first victim is found, you just press a button to suppress that beacons signal, and then it points you to the next strongest signal.

I have not personally used the Ortovox S1, but in talking with people who have used it, it has a lot slower processor than the other beacons and takes a little extra time to "map out" the area.

The BCA Tracker has been a great beacon for a long time, it is a digital beacon with a fast processor and has two antennae. For a single burial, I like a BCA tracker as well as any other beacon.

The pieps and pulse are both digital and have three antennae. For multiple burials, I would recommend one of these beacons. They make searching for multiple beacons much easier and the three antennae eliminate the dead spots that occur sometimes with two antennae.

Whatever you do, get a digital beacon and PRACTICE
