Best Bang for you buck mods on a 2004 Summit?

I just bought a 2004 Summit X 800 159'' lastnight. Sled is completely stock except for a MBRP can. What are some of the best mods to do to these sleds? I would like to delete that rear rack and tail light some how, any kits for this? Let me know your opinions!! Thanks

I have the same sled, good choice:-)
If it's completely stock, then I suggest replacing the pistons, as they're notorious for having flaking issues. I have weisco dual-ring.
Also, the primary clutch had issues, and is why I upgraded to the 2006 clutch. Both pistons and clutch were preventative maintenance.
Moving outside the engine, I took off the sway bar and cranked up the pre-loads. Also, if you ride any sort of deep powder, you will need Better-Boards, or Snow-Eliminators.....as the snow gets packed in that year really bad and you'll be slipping off allllll the time. Add venting to the clutch area. Also, if you ride trails much to get to/from backcountry, you may want to think about adding ice scratchers, and even a temp gauge, as it get's pretty warm without snow hitting the rear cooler constantly.
Finally, I removed the back rack and just mounted the tail light directly to the snow flap.
Good luck, and enjoy.

To the above, add:
SLP heat eliminators and powder screen on the intake
Simmons flex skis or Slydogs
Remove clam shell and ceramic coat the stock pipe
3" bar riser and if you can afford it, Axess high rise seat
Chrome rings if the pistons are good.
Port the track

How maney miles on it?
If over 3,000 put in new pistons, new chain, and a clutch kit of your choice.

It's only got 1600 miles!! Went out in the stuble field on the weekend and spanked my buddies 09 800 XP!! Do these snow eliminators take away any strength? Which is better snow eliminators or Better boards?

Very similar products. I used to bend my boards every time I would ride, even with fishbones. I put Better Boards on my '05 two seasons ago and have not bent them yet.

If you go with Snow Es make sure you grind down the grippers that go into the foot well because they will trap your boot. I don't have any sagging or bending problems.

Hi D^J:beer;

For high altitude (above 9,000') I use 3 grams, #3 clicker, on a stock 04 REV 800-151. Very competitive with the XP:face-icon-small-hap

Good sled, I have the same (kind of). Some things I have done to mine: rkt 827, team lite, Boss seat, mnt fit hoods 5 pcs vent kit, 06 tunnel, simmons flex ski, removed sway bar, tra 3 race clutch, custom tail lights mounted in the bumper, Firmer (fat guy approved) rear springs, 7 tooth avids to fit my CE 162 2.5" 3" pitch track, Mountain machines billet 8" rear wheels that I converted into a two wheeler, skinz super Q, Hot pot (****in awsome thing to have), slp cold air intake, removed all decals (straight black and bad ***)
After adding all that it is actually a pretty gnarly machine now. I would have to say that my favorite addition/mod would have to be the boss seat.
Cheers
Ill

Joe, we ran 0 grams with the stock clutching, 3 grams with yours. We start at 8,000' and go to 11,500'.

ran 0 grams with the stock clutching
---I take it you mean that you run empty pins.

3 grams with yours
---I take it you mean that you run empty pins + 3 grams.

The stock pins weigh 12.1g
The pins I send are 14.5g empty

I got the same sled also except, rkt 827 kit, dynamo joe clutch kit, toms skidoo drop and roll,3inch avid drivers, 156x16x2.5 track ,elimated the ugly rear tail lights and put on a led. Boyesen stock replacement reeds.I tried the rkt drop in also its also a ripper!!

Yeah Joe, 3 grams in your empty pins. I assumed your pins were the same wt. as stock--thanks for the heads up:beer;

Rite on. I have 2 sets of pins.
1) is 14~20.5g pins. Emtpy they are 14g so then say with 14g + 3g screw would = 17g.

2) is 11~16g pins. Empty they are 11g so then say with 11g + 3g screw would be 14g.

I have no doubt that you have the #1) set and are at 17g.

THANKS
Joey
