Best area to take a trip????????

Planned vacations for the first week in Feb. Debating on checking out the Island Park area. Not sure where we will stay as of yet. My question is, Island Park or Lava Mountain Lodge, just down the hill from Togwotee...? Where is the better riding, amenities (bars), people. We stayed at LML two years ago and had a great time. We try and go different places every year... Anyone have any insight????????? Thanks in advance.

I can only talk about Island PArk......

There used to be alot of nightlife 10 years ago, not much anymore it seems. Island Park is very spread out, townwise.

Island Park is something like 20 miles long.

We stay in a nice rental cabin near Shotgun and Lakeside.

Riding is fantastic, especially off the normal areas.

Fuel was a problem last year. Both Shotgun and Lakeside did not have gas, so we had to bring fuel cans .......

Les and less people every winter it seems, which is not good for businesses, but good for less trampled riding areas.

We stayed at warm springs lodge and it was amazing. There are two rental places right in the little area and the riding was amazing. You can also check our the line shack which is one of the places to rent sleds and stay. It also has a few bars in town to go to at night and you can ride right from the location.

This place sits on the edge of Island Park Village. Its about two blocks to gas station restaurant and bar. Access is good and trail access is just outside of back door.

x2....
planning on being there Feb 10th-14th with a huge group from the Midwest.
PM me if you want a great deal during those dates, all inclusive packages.

I think IP is a better all around place than the T-pass area. I ride each place a couple of times each season. Don't get me wrong, I love T-pass but IP has a ton more to offer imo. Way more variety in areas and types of riding available. The amount of available amenities in IP and the adjacent West Yellowstone MT make the area more of a vacation spot.

Another vote for IP/West Yellowstone. There is quite a bit of variety in the area. Carrot Basin has some awesome boondocking and tree riding, IP has the Centennials including the MT. Jefferson area which has enough variety to please most anyone including lots of trails if you're into that kind of thing. If you think the more the merrier like I do, Lionshead is close by, the southside has some good open bowls and the north and east have some pretty decent hillclimbs and lower elevation tree riding. There are usually some garage type bands playing different bars in West and sometimes IP. It's know where near what it was 20 years ago as far as nightlife, but usually has something going on.

Alpine, Apline, Alpine!!!!

I just wanted to be clear.

I've stayed at Lava several times, great place, great food/drink, and walk down stairs to the bed at night. Nothing better to walk 20' out of your room and jump on your sled and then be in the thick of it, 10-15miles away. You won't find a bigger area than the CD trail system and more off trail stuff.

Apline is the best! You won't be disappointed. Trails, steep and deep, what ever you are looking for. You can even ride the Idaho side. Stay at the Bull Moose - FUN!

Island Park is for trail people, I was very dissapointed!

If you have even a moderate sized crew, you should strongly consider renting a vacation cabin.

We used to do the hotel or room thing,,,,,, for years.

Then it dawned on us, why not check into renting a cabin.

Nothing better than having your own place for the week where you have plenty of room to spread out, take a hot tub, grill your own steak (Bringing your own food makes the trip ALOT cheaper, and bringing your own booze does as well).

Taking a hot tub on your own deck, doing laundry whenever you want, watching satellite TV down in the TV room, playing pool.

We rent a place out in Island PArk (No, I am not saying where, but there are plenty of places) for about $350 a night. We have 11 guys on average staying there, so you do the math. It is as cheap or cheaper to stay at one of these cabins than a hotel......

Just food for thought.

same with us. even though th is place is booked throughout February 2013, it is still a great place to visit!

Had the same troubles in IP the last few years, less places to eat, get fuel etc. Last year we took LOTs of gas cans to go get fuel every evening because there wasn't any close to us.
