Bent steering post

i have a "slightly" bent steering post, right now not enough to bother me but was wondering what experience people have with them and how brittle do they get if i happen to bend it more? (dont want it to snap in the middle of a ride). Also what kind of luck have people have bending them back?

If it is not kinked you will be ok to bend back. If it gets bent again in the same spot you will have issues with it going further because the metal is now getting brittle. Once metal is bent you can bend it back and not loose to much strength...but if it is kinked and you bend it back you will do what is called " work hardening" of the metal...meaning that it got bent/kinked...that is the first WH...you bent it back...that is the second WH..etc. Metal can only withstand a certain amount of WH before it becomes brittle and then cracks...just depends on the strength of the metal and at what point it fails.

So if it keeps bending in that one area you will need to replace it or it will snap on you. If you are not comfortable with it when you bend it back and you see little cracks around the bend area then replace it. If the post is kinked I would replace it.

If it is just off a tad to make you notice it and you bend it back and you feel comfortable with it then RIDE ON!!!

What kind of sled? A new post for a 09 with tele bars is $66. I bent mine and figured for that I will replace

Its an 07 so just standard steering post...already have a riser so i wasn't going to do the telescoping bars. i was toying with the idea of a cromoly post
