Belts 166 vs. 288

I know people have been trying the 288 race belt instead of the stock 166. What has been your experiance with the 288?

Quick question - went in to get a new belt (last one lasted 1000kms with lots of doubling) and when i asked for a belt for a 07 800 they were all out of the 166 and gave me this line 'all out of that one, new ones on order, BUT we have this belt that guys here are really liking' its last 3 numbers are 152. Did i get swindled or have guys used this belt and how did it perform?
not putting it on yet as it is a back up right now but would like to know
thanks

The "152" is a discontinued belt......or at least it is in this part of the world.
166
253
288
are all very similar and will work in place of the other. The 253 is now subbed up to the 288.

The belt you XP owners want is the 417 300 377.
Tell your dealers to get them on b/o.

Ya its the one with the yellow lettering ...not sure i like the sounds of "discontinued" may have to go back once they have the right ones in stock as i don't seem to eat belts

I've got under a hundred miles on my first 288, working good so far. a bit of belt dust coming off it, but no cords yet. I measured it at 1/16" wider than the new white lettered 166 I had.

146", 19/45 gears, 160/290 spring, 16.8g pin weight. still not there yet....

I did some testing in early January with the two belts and found that after two long hard pulls on the same hill back to back the new one was 25 F cooler belt temp...

When you say new one do you mean the 288 or the all new 377?

Okay, is this the new belt that Doo is putting out or is that one still to come?

377 must be the new belt for the XP that no one has seen yet, right?

my first belt (166) lasted just over 100-miles. I then put a Carlisle XS803 on the sled, but it won't hold RPM in the steep or deep, so I went to the 253 and it hold RPM in the steep and deep, but over-revs on the trail. The 253 lasted about 350-miles before it strarted to blow cords. I put the Carlisle back on because I haven't had a chance to get back to the dealer to get a new belt.

One thing for sure, as time goes on my clutch appears to be running cooler and cooler (from sizzling hot, to hot but can't keep your hand on it for more then a few seconds, to being a good hand warmer when we stop to take a break since my grip heaters never worked.)

The best advice I have taken from this site has been to go with the Gates Extreme 38X-4320 belt. It is 1/2 the price of a Doo belt and is shorter. It has made my XP much smoother and stopped buzzy feel (along with much primary weight and lighter spring) Thanks to the guy who came up with that one.

The 417 300 152 is the gold belt for 417 300 127 which is the belt used on all 700 and 800 ZX sleds. Not REV's or XP's.
